Magician reminded me of games that are pretty much dogshit which happen to have fangoddamntastic soundtracks:

I belatedly submit the fucking entirety of Fester's Quest.

But if we have to pick out of that, it has to be either overworld shitkicking or mothership battle.

Sunsoft why couldn't you stop remaking Blaster Master with just the shit part my god what is wrong with you.

Had this game as a kid. Wasn't particularly good, but it had some solid music.

I'll toss in Overworld, Mothership, and Billy at some point.

19. Ninja Gaiden - Stage 4-2 [ 10 ]
38. Action 52 - AND NOW... THE CHEETAHMEN [ 3 ]
56. Magician - Lake [ 7 ]
36. Dr. Mario - Fever [ 5 ]
16. Dragon Warrior/Quest 3 - The Final Battle [ 5 ]
60. Crystalis - The Angry Sea [ 6 ]
47. Final Fantasy III - Eternal Wind [ 5 ]
17. The Guardian Legend - Area 0: Naju Gateway [ 6 ]

Advancing: Ninja Gaiden, Magician, Crystalis, Naju Gateway
Eliminated: (Sorry, no loser's this time around) Cheetahmen, Dr. Mario, DQ3, FF3

Except for Cheetahmen, all the losers were just one vote behind making the cut. Ninja Gaiden leads the pack.

Next up:

71. Little Nemo the Dream Master - Boss Battle
35. Super Mario Bros 1. - Stage 1-1
67. Kirby's Adventure - Ice Cream Island
28. Batman - Streets of Desolation (Stage 1)
6. The Legend of Zelda - Ganon's Dungeon
18. Ninja Gaiden - The Masked Devil
5. Megaman 2 - Wily's Fortress
53. Castlevania - Wicked Child

Ooof. Some tough choices.

Nemo is a game where some like the music and some don't - I'm in the "don't" camp but it certainly has been popular enough to make a lot of other lists.

Super Mario is of course, iconic, and catchy as shit, but it's also very simple. I don't know if it belongs on this poll, (I didn't add it) so you'll have to decide if this tune can stand with the big boys or not.

Kirby's Adventure isn't my style of music (I generally don't like the more upbeat stuff) but I have to recognize that the composition is incredible.

Batman is more my style. Sunsoft's heavy industrial games and music never felt better than stage 1 of Batman for NES.

Ganon's Dungeon is a personal favorite of mine. Like DQ3's final boss theme, it informs you that Ganon is now through fucking around with you as soon as you step foot into that final castle. I don't expect it to make it out of round 1, though. I guess you guys have the chance to prove me wrong!

The Masked Devil is another favorite of mine, but unlike Zelda I think it might have a shot of making it out of here. Love the uneasy dread it invokes.

Wily's Fortress and Wicked Child need no introduction. Anyone who cares about chiptunes at all has heard these two tracks. Incredible, both.

I was gonna vote solely for Ice Cream Island, but then Batman happened. Voting for both.

I really considered Ninja Gaiden, but in the end it just didn't go on for long enough before looping.

Late submission?

Stinger's intro & main stage theme.

Yeah, Bayou has no business having a track that good.

I can't even vote for my own submission this round. Maybe I should have gone with Nightmare World over Boss Battle.

Bayou Billy was a gameplay trainwreck but it was still a Konami game. Those tunes.

Ice Cream Island, Batman's Desolation, and Wicked Child. No surprises from me here.

Except I'm voting Masked Devil over Wily Castle. As incredible as remixes of Wily Castle are, the original composition is still rather hollow, much like the original SMB. The melody is there but the technical prowess hadn't yet fully expanded. Understandable, but ultimately I'm voting on listenability, and I'd rather sit there listening to Masked Devil than Wily Castle.

71. Little Nemo the Dream Master - Boss Battle [ 2 ]
35. Super Mario Bros 1. - Stage 1-1 [ 2 ]
67. Kirby's Adventure - Ice Cream Island [ 5 ]
28. Batman - Streets of Desolation (Stage 1) [ 5 ]
6. The Legend of Zelda - Ganon's Dungeon [ 0 ]
18. Ninja Gaiden - The Masked Devil [ 3 ]
5. Megaman 2 - Wily's Fortress [ 8 ]
53. Castlevania - Wicked Child [ 9 ]

Pretty clear cut round. Wily and Wicked dominate as expected, with Batman and Kirby bringing up the rear.

Next up:

46. IronSword - Prologue
81. Fester's Quest - Overworld
52. WURM: Journey to the Center of the Earth - Title Theme
22. Rad Racer - ARE YOU ASKING FOR A CHALLENGE????!!!?!?!?!11
65. Pictionary - Title
25. Castlevania 3 - Riddle
75. TMNT - Opening
2. Contra - Stage 5 (Snowfield)

Hmmm. I'm under contractual obligation to vote Contra, so that's one. As far as the rest, it's real tough.

I don't think I can reasonably exclude Pictionary. Shit is so fresh it's moving to Bel-Air. That's two.

Rad Racer tickles me. Probably mostly because of Homestar. I do actually like the track a lot, though. Three.

Ironsword is great but I feel like it's inferior to the opening theme from Wizards and Warriors. I'm not as big a fan of Fester's overworld as I am of the boss theme. That leaves WURM, CV3 Riddle, and TMNT, all of which are excellent tracks. Not sure what I'd go with.

22. Rad Racer - Sunset Coastline [ 0 ]

25. Castlevania 3 - Riddle [ 4 ]
75. TMNT - Opening [ 4 ]
2. Contra - Stage 5 (Snowfield) [ 1 ]

huh. hardly anyone voted! I wonder if I should leave this one open longer, but oh well.

Pictionary got eliminated? what the fuck

Next up:

42. River City Ransom - Shop Theme
59. Godzilla - Title Theme
3. Contra - Boss
82. Fester's Quest - Mothership Battle
64. 3D World Runner - Stage
48. Gimmick! - Strange Memories of Death
34. Journey to Silius - Stage 1
50. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out: Bike Theme

Hopefully we get more than what, 5 people voting?

Obligation to Contra, Godzilla too good, Fester the Bester, and Journey take this round for me.

due to popular demand, I'll be leaving each poll up for two days (minimum) from now on.

This one's gonna be up for the whole weekend.

My favorite in this group is probably the MM3 title, but my second favorite is Nightmare Battle. That is some hot shit and get out of my face if you don't think so.

To me, Kraid's Lair embodies the essence of what the Metroid games are all about. I like the Brinstar theme's bold adventuresomeness (wait, is that even a word? huh yes it is, wow) as much as everybody, and Norfair definitely knocks the creepy alien vibe out of the park, but man, Kraid's Lair eerie, lonely and almost mournful melody really captures the feeling of being miles deep in a hostile, inhuman mind's warrens and light years away from the nearest friendly.
