Klingsofleon is the single best Star Trek joke ever made.

I just watched The Motion Picture on Netflix. The plot turned out to be entirely silly, which I appreciated.

Some people really do have entirely too much time on their hands.

My quest to watch all of the odd-numbered movies continues. The Search for Spock really wasn't that bad, except for the climactic fight.

Which came first, Insurrection or Nemesis?

Search for Spock is okay by virtue by being part of the 2-4 trilogy. It's not one of the greats, but definitely not one of the bad movies. Insurrection came before Nemesis.

I remember I saw Insurrection on VHS, and I remember Geordi no longer had the visor.

That is pretty much the extent of what I remember about it.

You can skip Insurrection and Nemesis and watch the Plinkett reviews of them instead and not miss a single thing.

Be sure to watch Insurrection with director's commentary on so you can listen to Johnathan Frakes fellate Michael Piller.

What Brentai said.

Insurrection is basically the one movie that kind of felt like a TNG episode, just not a very good episode. The fact that they didn't even both to fill in the bluescreen during the final action sequence is one of my all-time favorite Fuck Its in cinematic history.

Nemesis is truly, incredibly, nightmarishly bad. But! It jumps the shark very early, and before you know it, Picard is dual-wielding assault rifles and doing donuts in a dune buggy. It's best watched drunk.

Nemesis is great because they cut out any sections of it that might have added any touching character moments or sendoffs to the series. They did this to make room for all of the important parts that we did get, of course.

the actual correct way to watch the Trek movies is thusly:

step 1: watch all of the TOS ones. Yes, even the odd-numbered ones.
step 2: don't watch any of the TNG ones, ever
step 3: just watch "All Good Things..." instead

This but honestly you can skip TOS #5 unless you're Rifftraxing it.

I mean, sure it's funny, but it's more painful than funny.

Also, I didn't know they made any TNG movies? LalalalalaI'mnotlistening

You know, I somehow didn't even recognize Sigourney Weaver in the beginning sequence, though the familiarity was bugging me right up until her name shows up in big fucking letters. It's astounding what a blonde wig and a low neckline can do. Especially when contrasted with Alan Rickman covered in prosthetics and you're instantly "Hey, Alan Rickman. Yay."

To be fair, this predated the comparatively recent revival of her career, where she fills powerful villainous roles, and honestly wouldn't be all that memorable if it weren't for juxtaposition and subtext (spoiler: she's the Alien Queen.) Not that I'd call any part of Paul particularly memorable or thought provoking. At least Cabin in the Woods was like "Oh yeah. Haha. Wink." So was Galaxy Quest, in that yeah, at the time you'd probably see her on the convention circuit. In retrospect, most of her more recent roles have been dependent on her earliest roles and the fact that she's Sigourney Weaver. Kind of like it's fun to imagine that every Harrison Ford or Clint Eastwood or Robert De Niro or ... hell, every Nick Cage, Bill Murray and Alan Rickman character is the same person that this stupid shit keeps happening to.
