I think they're going for the magnificent bastard angle. Not sure how often I see that as a protagonist.

I hate shows that make a villain the protagonist and then remove all good guys.

I'm not sure that's a spoiler so much as just the premise of the show.

I'm perfectly all right with a show where everyone is terrible, be it a drama or a comedy. I've only caught the pilot of House of Cards but I liked it.

After procrastinating for the past two months I finally finished watching season four of Breaking Bad. It was pretty good. Now maybe I'll finish the last season in the next year or so.

Last Friday, Netflix put up the first season of a new, Netflix-produced show called Bojack Horseman. It's 12 25-minute episodes, a neat five hours to watch. And everybody reading this needs to watch it. The show is so brilliant, and hilarious, and bleak, and brutal, and powerful. It'll leave you without faith or hope and terrified of what the rest of your life is going to be, and wondering whether there's any point to finding out.

At least, that's how I took it.

Don't watch the pilot, it's terrible and unfunny, but nothing happens that isn't reiterated later.

But yeah, 2-4 are just a straight-up good comedy and from episode 5 on the show really gets delightful in how well and truthfully they handle a common narrative trope.

I can't agree with skipping the first episode. It's funny, and good, and it's important for setup and thematically, but it's true that it isn't nearly as good as the show gets.

I watched the first episode and now I feel like I need about 30 hard drinks.

TA, much like the first episode isn't good, Brentai's comment wasn't a compliment.

I'm gonna have some serious problems getting past the art style.

I've mention this before, but I'm on season 2 of New Girl and it's really fun, and really cute. Recommended.

Well, I finished BoJack Horseman in one sitting.

The irony is that despite being an animated series about animal characters they are entirely believable and human in their mannerism and actions. I agree with TA's assessment pretty much wholesale.

The first two (hour long) episodes of Ghost in the Shell: Arise is on Netflix if that's your thing

To sum up: Reboot/Prequel. It's really good, and all the parts are there that "Make" something ghost in the shell.

It's really good.

So there's a movie I stumbled across on netflix. "The Machine". I knew nothing about it except the synopsis, which is generic action-movie bullshit. The move underneath is something very different. I can only reveal so much, because it's so.. weird.

The basic premise is a man is doing research into AI in the second cold war. It's all very deep, underground, black ops bullshit from top to bottom. There's a lot of intrigue and mystery in the plot, and in general it paints a very dark and bleak, if believable portrait into the future of cybernetics and artificial intelligence. It seems to cover most of its bases in the general tropes and pitfalls when it comes to AI.

It's not a lot of action, but when it happens it is well choreographed and believable.

"All is Lost" is a really cool movie. A man on a boat hits a shipping container, and just has to solve one problem after another. Its somehow incredibly interesting.

I liked Grounded for Life when it was on the air and I like it still now.

It is exactly every 90s family sitcom ever (in that it aired in the 'aughts), but handles itself rather well in the execution.
