Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
Rick and Morty is pretty great.
It's Dan Harmon's new show, and it's basically what he was working on when it seemed like he had just been laid off from doing Community. It seems to be doing well, ratings-wise, so it'll probably get another season.
So far, there's been about six episodes. I've seen five, and liked three. Two were okay, but not great. These were the ones I liked:
M. Night Sham Aliens:
Rick Potion #9:
(Full episode) (NSFW)
Meeseeks and Destroy is probably my favorite.
Lawnmower Dog is okay. It's a better concept than an actual episode.
Anatomy Park has moments, and John Oliver, but it's mostly just weird and gross.
So, it could go either way, but when it's good, it's great.

Also Lemongrab voices like everyone.
Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
Anatomy Park is just Jurassic Park inside a dude and that's pretty ok in my book. The Meeseeks episode is the best one so far though.
Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
Agreed. Though... holy shit, that bit with the Jelly Bean. It worked, but just... fuck.
Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
Yeah. I can't tell if the truely horrifying bits, where they go way too far, is bold and awesome or unpleasant and buzz-killing.
I guess the brobdingnagian thing is that they're at least keeping Rick kind of sympathetic. He's not outright shitty, or intentionally irresponsible, he just thinks of everything at such a scientific distance that he takes liberties toward the greater good that are sometimes kinda monstrous. I think one thing I like is that he's an absolute genius, and he has his vast perspective on everything he does, but he's old enough that he's stopped giving a shit. Morty is what keeps him honest. I like it when they play that angle.
Obviously, I need to watch an episode high and figure out how I feel about that.

I want to enjoy this show, but Apparently this is one of those shows that's behind a "you need cable" viewing wall.
So...
So...

:/
Only way I've been able to see it is through On Demand, Adult Swim's site, and whenever someone posts an episode to Youtube.

Occasionally the Adult Swim YT channel posts them up, too:

There was a glorious day or so when Mothra first made the thread when everything but Meseek and Destroy was available on youtube. So if they were all out there they've certainly made it to more seedly locations as well.
Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
Yeah, the episodes are pretty easy to get. Even specifically the youtube ones, if you don't wanna feel bad about it.
Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
The last two episodes were really good. The one before it was amazingly bad, amounting to all the characters sitting in front of the TV and watching a string of half-assed sketches that the writers pushed out the door without a second thought. I guess when you've got a show on Adult Swim they let you put out an episode or two where you just do not even fucking try.
Still, that episode aside, it's been delightful:

What in the world are you talking about? The TV episode was the height of the show so far, it was absolutely brilliant. Deep hilarious in the A-plot, dark and heartwarming in the B-plot.

Oh, there's more of these! I need to watch these!

Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
I actually kind of liked the T.V. episode. It came way WAY earlier in the series than it should, but as far as episodes shoehorning in ideas they couldn't make an entire episode out of it was fun.
The only thing that really put me off about it is the ending. The first five episodes pushed how miserable Jerry and Beth were pretty hard. Now it seems like they're trying their damndest to make up for it.

Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
It was like the laziest episode of anything I've seen in years. They threw together six or seven sketch ideas without editing jack, then put them to paper.
I guess it's kind of funny how little of a shit they gave when they made it?
The ending was decent, though.

Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
So... is Morty getting smarter?
Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
I wouldn't call Morty smart by any means, but he is definitely a bit aware.
Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty
Two awesome R&M episodes, then kind of an ehh one for the finale.
Something Ricked This Way Comes wasn't anything ground-breaking or particularly clever, but it was a lot of fun. Liked seeing Rick and Summer as a duo for an episode, too. Definitely worth a watch.
Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind was amazingly good. It's a story that wouldn't really work on any other show, full of great one-off lines, peppered with horror and wrapped up perfectly. Loved it to death:
Ricksy Business was decent. Not bad, not good.
