TMNT (created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird)

I take it that's slightly less of a deep cut in its native country?
In the US it used to run on Nickelodeon back before Nickelodeon was a media empire unto itself, when it still mostly just licensed children's programming from other countries.
(Speaking of, anybody know if Belle and Sebastian exists in higher-quality format than blurry VHS rips on YouTube?)

Looks like it was originally a Japanese import, probably? Maybe it exists under another name?

Apparently Meiken Jorī, yeah. Or, variously, Meiken Jolie, Famous Dog Jolie, or Jolie the Famous Dog.
Oh also there's a mannequin that looks like this
but obviously I'm much more excited by references to obscure foreign '80s children's programming.

Mutant Mayhem is a lot of fun. It's a great continuation/evolution of Mitchells vs the Machines in terms of art and animation, and the kids playing the turtles are absolutely fantastic.

Okay I don't really collect toys but if there's a toy of pimp suit Donatello I want it.

There's no way I'm the first person to ever ask this question or think of why things ended up the way they did, but... why did the ninja Turtles end up with the names they did?
Michaelangelo being the wacky one kind of still works across both, but for the rest? How is Leonardo not the tech-nerd with his head in the clouds? Meanwhile IRL Raphael had leadership and heavy responsibility thrust on him at a young age and IRL Donatello is the closest of the four to 'smouldering'.
Of course canonically the explanation is probably something like Splinter grousing "How the fuck was I supposed to perfectly predict the teen personalities of a quartet of infants?! Wow, fuck you, how about you try raising four teens in a sewer?"

I gotta figure E&L were just riffing and didn't put that much thought into the specific Renaissance names they chose.
I mean, they didn't even look up how to spell "Michelangelo".
