Lucifer has also been cancelled. I'm okay with it ending where it did, but there's a campaign to bring it back.

Maybe CW will take it. They could use another show based on a DC comic; they only have six.

It could use like... Another episode or two, at most one more season? But Lucifer was mirroring Castle, with some good early seasons and then the conclusion of will-they won't-they and then there's nowhere interesting to go without adding unnecessary drama and bullshit that ruins the show.

PHEW, Amazon did indeed pick it up.

The show is apparently a favorite of Amazon CEO (and absurdly rich dude) Jeff Bezos, so he could make anything happen if he just threw enough money at it. The Hollywood Reporter story says that Bezos was already “livid” that the show had gone to Syfy in the first place, since he’s a “big fan of the book,” and he had already the show’s streaming rights (at least in the United States).

Thanks Mr. B...

I'm way behind on Riverdale. I just watched the Tales from the Darkside episode.

And, okay. Penny Peabody blackmails Jughead with...a video of him and Archie taking a crate into a warehouse, which she threatens to send to Sheriff Keller.

How the fuck does that work?

I realize that the legal system works differently on TV, and that this is doubly true for TV shows based on comic books. But...I am pretty sure that taking a crate into a warehouse is legal?

There's not actually any evidence on the video that there is any kind of contraband in that crate. What's Penny going to do, tell Sheriff Keller that she put something illegal in it and then gave it to Jughead?

Now, obviously if Archie and Jughead are delivering a crate to a warehouse in Greendale at midnight, that is super sketchy and they are clearly up to something. But what, exactly, are the potential repercussions of Penny giving the video to Sheriff Keller? Archie and Jughead attract the attention of the sheriff's department? They get busted for violating curfew? Archie gets a stern lecture from his father? Jughead gets put in foster care? Literally all of these things have already happened.

I guess that, chronologically, the scene where Penny blackmails Jughead is the last thing that happens in the episode. (It happens at the end of the first act, but after the ending of the episode, which does some minor Pulp Fiction-style timeline fuckery, complete with ending in a diner.) So maybe the next episode begins with Jughead immediately realizing that this is not very good blackmail evidence and shrugging it off? Somehow I'm guessing that's not what happens.

Welp, we got two more episodes, but they didn't exactly tie up any loose ends.

But hey, Neil Gaiman as God.

(Also I'm pretty sure Ella's nametag said "Espinoza" and this was never explained? I'm going to assume that was just a goof -- whoever sent the request to costuming had a brain fart and mixed up the names of the two Hispanic characters -- but if the show got picked up and ever did another episode in the alternate timeline, that could be a good jumping-off point for another story.)

Michael Moore has some things to say about this: https://www.facebook.com/mmflint/posts/ ... 5035671857

I have known Roseanne Barr for over 25 years. I've known her as Roseanne Barr, Roseanne Arnold, just "Roseanne", then back to Roseanne Barr. I've spent time in her home, criss-crossed the country with her to help remove George W. Bush from the White House, appeared on her shows, been there for her when she needed something, and connected her with one of my producers who did an insightful, one-of-a-kind documentary into the genius and the tragedy that is Roseanne Barr.

On Tuesday Roseanne posted hateful, slanderous tweets directed at four people: George Soros, Valerie Jarrett, Chelsea Clinton and me. A few hours later, she was fired by ABC.

For the past few years, Roseanne has been posting the craziest stuff on Twitter, like claiming Hillary was part of a child sex abuse ring being run out of a DC pizza place. She's claimed that the Clintons have murdered people. And anyone who criticizes Benjamin Netanyahu is a "nazi."

Roseanne seems to be suffering from some sort of madness. It's more than just saying she's a racist. She operates in the same sewer of lies, conspiracy theories and bigotry that's been rising in America for years and that has now succeeded in electing our current president. Totally nuts.

Here's who's not crazy: Donald J. Trump.

Trump, though he shows all the signs of being absolutely bonkers, is not insane. He's the real deal. His racism and hate is real, it's well thought-out, he's the true master of manipulation, a brilliant performance artist, and an evil genius. He outsmarted a nation of liberals and Democrats and won the White House by losing the actual vote of the people. He neutered and then destroyed the Grand Old Republican Party. He knows exactly what he is doing.

Roseanne, on the other hand, is a person who long ago broke through and brought an authentic voice of working women and men to television via one of the greatest TV series of all time. It was groundbreaking because the TV industry had historically either ignored, ridiculed or patronized those of us who grew up in the working class. Roseanne changed that.

But she is also a damaged soul. Most people don't know that she has suffered her entire life from a massive head injury she received during a serious car accident when she was a child. Her brain injuries were immense and she spent months in the hospital struggling to recover.

I also have no idea what it was like to grow up, as she did, as a Jewish girl in Salt Lake City. Not a tolerant state, to be sure. She told me how her parents, who owned an apartment building, were asked by the U.S. government after World War II if they would be willing to house Holocaust survivors who had come to the U.S. as refugees. Her parents took dozens in, and Roseanne's childhood was spent with these survivors as her "family." "The stories they told me," she said, "were filled with unimaginable horror. I've always wondered what effect that had on me as a little girl."

Now, sadly, for the past few years, Roseanne has been in a downward spiral, ranting like crazy on Twitter, spreading conspiracy theories, attacking the people she used to love, supporting Trump, and being just an outright hateful and racist person. It has been a difficult decline to witness. She has repeatedly attacked me, and on Tuesday, after calling George Soros a "Nazi" (he's a Jew and a Holocaust survivor), Valerie Jarrett an offspring "of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes," and saying that Chelsea was "married to" a Nazi relative of George Soros, she then retweeted a disgusting new word for me because I have spoken out against the Netanyahu government and its killing of Palestinians -- "#JewHater". Nonstop insanity and sickness.

I guess there might be 20 million Americans (out of 320 million) who probably agree with her. She has thrown down with the lowest of the low, and who knows if she’ll ever recover from this descent into her own personal hell.

To close, I want to say just how great the new Roseanne show was. It was funny but brutal to watch because it showed how our system of greed has hurt millions of families like the Connors of Illinois. On the final episode last week, Roseanne was addicted to opioids because she couldn't afford the knee surgery she needed, so she suffered along in agonizing pain. Dan, her husband, in order to raise money for her surgery, decided to take a non-union job -- and Roseanne berates him for doing so and letting his union brothers and sisters down. There are a couple quick knocks on Trump, making it clear that the real Roseanne was not writing or running this show. For the past 9 weeks, the new Roseanne show has shined a powerful and necessary light on what it means to be working class in 2018. Her blended family on this new series was white and black and LGBTQ, and her generous neighbors next door were Muslims who forced her to confront her own bigotry.

If only her art could have helped her in her real life.

(Also, let me say this: There's no reason the show has to go just because she's gone. Over the years, TV has found ways to bring Bobby Ewing back from the dead on “Dallas”, forced us to accept the two Darrins on “Bewitched”, and found ways for hit shows to survive when their stars bolted after a year or two [David Caruso on "NYPD Blue", Pernell Roberts on "Bonanza"]. The smart people who were writing this Roseanne series can surely find a way to let the non-bigoted portion of the America's working class [which I can tell you is the VAST majority] have their voice heard on network television. Why should it be silenced by one lost soul?)

Trump *is* insane, but it's the sort of insanity that's nurtured and grown across a lifetime.

And I don't buy the argument that Trump is any kind of "genius", evil or otherwise. I'll accept "gifted" and "talented", but it comes from a place of instinct, not thought.

He is extremely good at getting attention and at telling a certain subset of the population what it wants to hear. He's also barely literate, lacks a fundamental understanding of how the US government works, and one person recently described a conversation with him as "like talking to a toddler."

I'd bet good money that the current version of Trump has no small amount of senility mixed in.

Okay actually the next episode does pretty much do that, and then Penny's like "well then I'll threaten your dad and girlfriend," which makes a lot more sense as blackmail. Well-played, Riverdale.

Also, I just saw the credits and discovered that the guy who plays Tall Boy is Scott McNeil, who played Rattrap, Dinobot, and Waspinator, among many other roles.

Rolling Stone: 'The Good Place' Creator Mike Schur on Season 2's Debate-Spawning Finale

He addresses the big questions: they're in the real world, not another simulation; and yeah Chidi probably shouldn't be speaking with an American accent in the real world but they'll address that next season.

I still haven't seen an answer to my big question. Did Eleanor actually pass the test in Burrito? It seemed to imply that she did, even if it ended up getting cut off. But she didn't do the right thing for the right reason, she did it because she figured out the trick.

I was just thinking about this yesterday!

And what I concluded was, she hesitated enough on accepting the offer to realize it was a trick, and that's more than any of the other three did.

You could probably tweet Mike Schur and ask.

To be unfashionably late to the party yet again...
Mothra wrote:Boy howdy if A Handmaid's Tale isn't the single most bleak series I've ever tried watching.

God damn.

Like, you settle in, turn on your TV, and decide to put on another hour of watching people in impossible situations being tortured horribly.

I'm relentlessly baffled by how people can watch this kind of television. At least The Walking Dead has the survival aspect; as far as I can tell, A Handmaid's Tale seems to be entirely torture porn. Like, in the few times I dared to peek in and see what all that noise is while I'm trying to pack kiddo's lunch, I see 1) a mass execution, 2) a pregnant woman chained to a bed, and 3) a lady having her hand shoved into a stove burner. I think I need new eyes and a new brain.

But yeah, I guess Gravity was pretty hard to watch. Just ninety minutes of terrible things happening to Sandra Bullock (in ridiculously fantastic circumstances, which she triumphantly overcomes in mind-blowing 3D).

sorry, don't mind me, just grossed out and confused and mad

Yeah, I didn't understand the appeal either. It's like the target audience is people who like Saw movies.

Roseanne reboot coming back as "spinoff" 'The Conners'. If they recast Roseanne with Sarah Chalke I will buy the fucking DVD to support this show.

A friend of mine suggested they'll do what they did back in the 80's for Valerie, which became The Hogan Family (now there's an obscure reference!), which is just kill her off.

I mean, it's a bit brutal, but an early death for her would actually really fit the demographic and conditions the reboot series is meant to be portraying.

also you know all of these people were pretty cool with doing the show with roseanne being exactly who she was when they were cashing the checks the first time around so

like anyone who can go ahead and enjoy whatever this becomes because that ghoul isn't involved, great, but that well is irrevocably poisoned for me.
