Animotion and Car Tunes
Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
While the option of pirating waiting is probably the better choice until there's a physical DVD release, an amazon or google HD purchase will only run you $25 per "season" (which is 26 11 minute episodes). purchasing the two seasons currently available has relieved me of some of the guilt I felt for waiting.
Still kind of freaking out at the rumors that the original 104 episode run might get cut short.

ffff. YOUTUBE TAAAGS!
Aaaand now I have to watch Stephen Universe.
Been kinda putting it off for a rainy day but lordy lordy
I'm assuming 1) this isn't already the reason after the post and 2) this is as meaningful to you as it was to me when I learned it. The voice of Sugilite is Nicki Minaj (and hilariously poorly acted when compared with the incredible work all the regular VAs do). In fact every 'giant woman' so far has been voiced by a female vocalist and it's the only show I've seen, outside the obvious, to have Joel Hodgson in a recurring role.
Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
I can't tell if it's a lack of VA chops or less time spent directing.
Also:
O hey, garnet's VA is Estelle? You don't say? Also the only gem we've seen that has more than one gem in her "relaxed" state?

If you're not already including Freaks and Geeks under "the obvious", I recommend giving it a watch as well.
Trace is in it too, and Weinstein was a writer.

Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
I'm either mentioning that I totally forgot Joel showed up on F&G, or starting a semantics argument over how appearances in two different extra roles does not count as a "recurring character". Take this where you will.
Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
They weren't different roles; they were the same character credited differently. And while he was a pretty minor character (didn't even have a name, hence the need to credit him by whatever thing he was doing in a given episode), he wasn't an extra; he had lines. (I'd argue that he was the primary antagonist in the disco episode.)
Don't know why I bothered to recommend a TV show to you. Should have remembered what happened last time somebody tried that.

Man, I hope you guys were watching the latest two episodes of Steven Universe! The brobdingnagian encounter we were waiting for all week, the confirmation of a fan-favorite fan theory, Garnet sings! and one of the nastiest, just barely kid-friendly ways for a villain to go. (Not that I don't expect to see them again, of course.)

Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
This is great. A ten-episode series on Youtube, each less than a minute, except for the last one, which runs for a comparatively massive two minutes. This thing is a hoot.

That was cute. Thanks, Mongrel!
Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
Well, huh.
On the one hand, that feels like the best reason the show's ever had for me to finally stop watching it.
On the other, I'm having trouble finding any objective reason why "beloved characters recast because actor voluntarily leaves after 26.5 years because he doesn't think it pays well enough to justify doing it anymore" should be a brobdingnagier deal than "beloved characters retired because actor dies" or, you know, "show has descended into mediocrity (but still manages to pull out the occasional great episode)."
On the one hand, Shearer's made it very clear over the past 15 years that he's not enjoying the show anymore. On the other, his characters continue to provide a lot of the silver linings to modern Simpsons, with may of the best episodes of the last few years featuring Burns or Flanders in particular.

Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
I thought he was leaving because he was previously allowed to do outside work and now they want exclusivity?
Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
That's what his tweet indicated, yeah; not sure what the whole story is. I've seen other sources say he wanted a piece of merchandising, and he's said exactly that in the past, so I'm willing to bet that's at least one of the things he was asking for.

Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
I could see it as a scenario where it's both; not only has been asking for more and not getting it, he's now being told to accept less. So he took a walk.
Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
Wouldn't surprise me.
The exclusivity thing seems a little weird. Not that I don't believe it; Fox management has done all kind of weird and dumb things over the years.

Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
Al Jean insists there's no exclusivity requirement.
Who the hell knows, really. Maybe one day we'll find out in a tell-all book. (You know, I never did read An Uncensored, Unauthorized History.)
Also:
...you know, if they made that Flanders's new voice, that would actually be pretty funny.
