As someone who once made a wall-mounted AC/DC thunderbolt in my university welding class, I especially appreciate this silliness.

I've loved that clip for a long time, partly because I love Judi Dench (she's my favorite actor) and partly because holy shit that guy fucked up so badly.

His recovery was also awful, like, how involved were the Brits in Vietnam even? They did fight in it and did some airstrikes alongside weapons and supplies, but I hardly think a British person would list Vietnam as one of the "wars" when asked "which war".

"I had seventeen cats during The War, by which of course I mean The Troubles. Lasted thirty years, you know, so seventeen cats isn't a ridiculous amount over that span of time..."

"Only had the three or four during the Suez Crisis in 1957, though."

Yeah, like, the only western country besides the US that really FOUGHT in Vietnam were the Aussies, who did in fact send a fairly full contingent, infantry, tanks, aircraft, etc. even though they were small proportion of the overall force.

I guess France was only involved in all the events leading up to the war, then?

Ah, but you won't get me that easily, my friend. You see, that would be the First Indochina War.

The Vietnam War only refers to the period where the main aggressor in Vietnam was the US, and while the two obviously overlap in many ways they were in fact separate conflicts, with the former French colony's partition in 1954 forming a clear line of demarcation. Not only because of the formation of North Vietnam and South Vietnam, but also with the independence of Laos and Cambodia.

There was even an genuine (albeit short) pause in foreign military involvement, which makes the start of the second war a subject of some debate. The US officially recognizes the 1st of November 1955, as that was the first date American military advisors were specifically assigned to Vietnam and not to southeast Asia in general. Other dates in use are the start of the Viet Cong insurgency in December 1956, or even the first conventional battle between the Viet Cong and the South Vietnamese army (ARVN) in September 1959.

I haven't linked this anywhere because it's been all over the place for me. But I'm realizing there might be no crossover in this community.

I imagine it's not impossible to get tired of watching people doing sickass robot moves, but I have no idea what it would take for me to get there.

Also I'm not sure what the occasion or festival is, but the apparent dork outfit contest only adds to this.

Somehow I just today learned Mark Proksch's origin story. He got his big break when he pranked various midwestern news programs as K-Strass the Yo-Yo Guy. Evidently after the videos went viral the writers of The Office saw them and reached out to offer him a role on the show.
