Is it so wrong that I just find this so superior to any of the songs in their original forms?

We need to do an experiment, have them perform the entire play at Polka pace with accordion. I think that might be the difference.

This is one of the tunes I end up whistling pretty often. These catchy early-20th century tunes are good for that, especially the horrible jingoistic* WWI songs (or, alternately, their far more amusing parodies).

This is a new one (to me). I wouldn't have thought the butchery of the meter would work, but... somehow it does.
(1:47 if you just want to skip the black humour and jump straight to the song)

Digging around the apartment for metal bits (old brackets, keys for locks which are long-gone, etc.) to add to the pile of stuff the grade 1 kids are using to make windchimes.

Huh, I heard this song in a Muppet Show episode and was all "wtf is this song." Now I know, it is an old, old song.

It's funny how many songs go back a lot further than a lot of people realize. I was talking the other day with some friends who didn't know that Black Betty was originally a chain gang work song that's over a hundred years old, before becoming a prewar blues standard (in the Leadbelly version below, the leg slaps are meant to emulate the hammer strikes which would have been part of the tune as a work song).
The cool thing is that thanks to INTERNEEEETT it's easy for anyone to learn about this sort of thing and even listen to all the changing interpretations as time passes:

Started rewatching Cowboy Bebop this week, and I have not had a single song on loop like I have today since like middle school. It was probably also something from this OST.

Listening to the initial instrumental sequence while watching the image in Friday's signature is kind of mesmerizing.

Ha! Oh dear.
Well, good to know, though that crime would be far from the worst committed by many of among the thousands of artists in my song catalogue.
