GOG is doing a Time Machine Sale, featuring one game per year from 1983 to 2013.

Oh hey this sounds like it could...

Oh I've already missed three years.

Why does GOG keep doing these sales that are useless to working people?

The last big GOG sale had a sort of catch-up day at or near the end where they brought back all the sales from the previous days. Hopefully they do something like that with this one, because I don't really want to stay up all night for the 90s.

GOG is releasing a client that aims to provide the benefits of Steam without the drawbacks -- it's optional and GOG downloads will still be DRM-free.

If you're thinking, as I frequently do, that you really should send some money GOG's way just because they love you, it turns out Witcher 3 is now available for preorder (the GOG version is currently priced at $54).

And $3 less per Witcher game you've already gotten through GOG. (Not a bad deal if your Witcher 2 came with a copy of Witcher 1.)

Linux support added; Linux sale.

I notice that some of the games already in my library have had automatic Linux support added (Legend of Grimrock, Stargunner) while others haven't (Flight of the Amazon Queen).

Seems like anything that uses DOSbox should be pretty easy to add Linux support to. Wonder if they'll mess around with WINE -- probably not.

Not all games with native Linux versions have Linux support on GOG yet; I notice the Linux version of Brutal Legend isn't up yet.

Akalabeth, Richard Garriot's first game, now available for free, and from the language in the announcement it sounds like there's no time limit, it's going to be free in perpetuity.

Ultima 4 and its spinoffs are also free (and have been for awhile), and the rest of the series is currently on sale.

Bastion is now on GOG, and on sale for $5.99, in case you somehow missed it, don't like Steam, or just want to buy it again to support GOG.

Looks like the GoG Galaxy is finally in open beta?

Maybe it was at time of Thad's posting and I just didn't notice it.

Nope, the open beta's a new announcement. (I feel like it was only a week or so ago that I got an invite to the limited alpha. So that's...quick.)

No Linux version yet. I'd like to give Witcher 2 another crack before 3 comes out.

Bethesda joins the party. So Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics are back on GOG, along with Doom 1, 2, and Quake, Morrowind, Redguard, and Battlespire. You get Arena and Dagger free with any Bethesda purchase, which is sort of nice except that you can get them free on elderscrolls.com without buying anything.

Also, I mentioned that Grandia 2 just got a PC release; it's 25% off at GOG right now. Though if Valkyria Chronicles is any indication, I'd expect it to go on sale pretty frequently, so no hurry or anything.

So apparently the GOG Galaxy client currently doesn't work on Windows 10 and they have no idea when or if it ever will be. Several folks I know have run into the issue and when they email customer support the response received is:

GOG Support wrote:Unfortunately I don't have any ETA and I'm unable to promise that it will ever be. Sorry for the inconvenience.

One of my friends was even asked if he had a different computer to use for GOG. Ha.

Note that the GAMES themselves work - you just have to launch the .exe manually (though there are reports that the new alt + tab fucks you up if you use it while in-game) - but this is pretty funny, considering what GOG's business model is supposed to be.

Hm. I haven't had any trouble with it (aside from intermittent connectivity issues that I'm pretty sure are Cox's fault, not the client's).

That's not exactly unexpected. An OS that was released a month ago and now has an install base in the tens of millions is going to work fine for some system configurations and not others.
