GOG's got an autumn sale on (fuck you, August is not autumn, it was 118 here today). Hero of the Kingdom 2 is currently free, you know the drill by now.

I've been seeing stores selling Halloween shit. It's making me want to drop kick someone into a trashcan.

That's nothing. Yesterday Kylie came home from the grocery, and the grocery bags had a snowflake pattern on 'em.

eBay's got a 20% off sale on, with coupon code LABORDAYTWENTY.

$80 for a refurb Xbox Elite controller (after the 20% off) looks like probably the best gaming deal.

The Shredder's Revenge expansion is out and currently 10% off. The base game is 30% off.

Looks like the deal is available regardless of your platform -- Switch, Xbox, PS4, PS5, Steam.

Steam's got a bundle with the early-access Wizardry remake and Making of Karateka for $42.48.

I don't see an expiration date on it but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

Hm. I do have a birthday coming up.

Atari 50 is currently at an all-time low price of $28 on Steam.

I snagged it for $7 less than that because it's also available in a discounted bundle with Wizardry and The Making of Karateka, and I already have those.

We're a couple of weeks out from the Steam Autumn Sale yet, but I suspect this particular game won't be on sale for much less than the $21 I paid for it (before tax).

Making of Karateka is a goddamn delight, BTW; it legitimately advances gaming history in a meaningful way. I've never seen anything like it (though I know Atari 50 is at least kind of like it, which is why I just bought it).

Wizardry...is something I'm happy to support but not sure how much I'm actually going to want to play it. Under the right circumstances I could maybe see myself banging my head against it until I actually finish it, but I think they'll need to add some significant QoL improvements first.

(I've already posted "please give me the option to make the automap persistent instead of having it disappear every time I leave the dungeon" and "please just let me save anywhere and save-scum it if I want to". I haven't played the latest update but I think my next two requests after those would be "please let me just have my characters exchange items in town instead of having to form a party and go into the maze" and "let me optionally disable the alignment restriction and put good and evil characters in the same party; if people want to do that they already know about the workaround that lets them, so why not just make it easier".)

In case you don't already have Half-Life, it's currently free. Half-Life 2 is on sale for a buck.

Anbernic RG35XX Plus goes on sale 8 hours from now. It's a Game Boy form factor Linux handheld that runs various emulators up to the level of PSX, DS, PSP, and Dreamcast.

At the official site it appears to be $57.99 USD but the site has a $10 discount code "ANBF". An AliExpress shot called Data Frog is selling the original RG35XX for $38.74. It's slightly less powerful and will play up to some PSX games. Both deals end on the 29th or so.

It's $5 again so I decided to grab it and yeah, confirmed, the Genesis version is included and the SNES version is DLC.

But I can understand why the people leaving angry reviews were confused, because when you select "Aladdin" it defaults to the SNES version. There are visual cues that there are other games you can select (a label that says "Console N version", implying there are other versions; a pulsing chevron on the righthand side of the screen indicating you can scroll right to select the various iterations of the Genesis game; and a tiny indicator at the bottom of the screen that you can press Y for "Bonus Games", which means the Game Boy port of the Genesis game, playable in B&W or Super Game Boy mode), but they're easy to miss. Digital Eclipse could have done a better job with the menu UI, and usually does.

Steam sale's on. Looks like a lot of games on sale that frequently go on sale anyway.

If you're in a Toriyama kind of mood, various Dragon Quests are on sale, and Chrono Trigger's $7.50. I think I might go ahead and snag that one; it got panned pretty badly on release but from what I've read they fixed most of the issues with it afterward (including a recent update to improve Deck compatibility) and it's generally considered a pretty good port at this point. I watched a little bit of an LP and at a glance the dialogue text is very readable at TV viewing distance but the menu text is a little small.

Humble has a Saints Row/Red Faction bundle on; the top tier is $10. Brent keeps recommending SR and I keep meaning to check them out, but you know me; I'll probably end up just replaying Chrono Trigger for the fiftieth time (possibly interrupting my replay of Super Mario RPG, though then again since I'm in a '90s Square kind of a mood maybe I should pick up Live a Live, or...).

Saint's Row is a good series I would recommend. It inherited the original sarcastic and over-the-top spirit of GTA that they gave up for more "maturity". Even the most recent one, though it has almost hilariously bad dialog and characters, is a lot of fun to play.
