Re: Hot game deals
Episode 1 of Life is Strange is free on Steam at the moment.
Re: Hot game deals
Tropico 4 is free for the next 13 and a half hours, as part of the Humble Store's End of Summer Sale.
Re: Hot game deals
The BoingBoing Store is currently selling 8bitdo bundles for $50. That's the controller (either NES-style or SNES-style), a Bluetooth dongle for the console it matches, and a phone shell.
In the case of the NES controller and dongle, that's roughly what you'd pay for the two on Amazon (with no phone case); in the case of the SNES, it's a little bit less than what you'd pay for them (again, with no phone case).
The SNES controller is pretty great; I haven't tried the NES controller because my affection for the NES does not extend toward holding a damn sharp-edged rectangle ever again, but it's presumably got the same guts so I expect it's a good controller too, if you like holding sharp-edged rectangles.

The headliner for November's Humble Monthly Bundle is Stardew Valley. I went ahead and got it because, as I mentioned elsewhere, I could probably use a game that calms me down instead of amping me up. (I've never played a Harvest Moon game or similar, but always thought they looked interesting.)
I've only played the first day so far. I liked it! Saving only at the end of each day seems a little bullshit, though.
Also there's another Witcher sale on at GOG. Must be Thursday.

Neverwinter Nights for free at GOG.
It's probably not going to get you any jobs at Bioware but it does make a surprisingly good prototyping tool for video game/campaign plots.

Someone in the channel was talking about wanting to figure out a way to play Lost Odyssey recently. Well, good news! It's available digitally now for both XBoxen, and it's free until the end of the year.
If you don't have an Noscope or a Bone, I think you can still dump it into whatever Microsoft account you've no doubt picked up over the years and play it if one of those consoles ever manages to fall into your lap, or hope they extend the Windows 10/XBone integration to 360 titles somehow.

Thanks. Squirrled that away for if I ever own a Microsoft platform again.
Re: Hot game deals
Thaaank ya.
No idea when I'll be able to play this, but it'll be there.

Re: Hot game deals
GRID (Steam key) free at Humble Store today. Nice to have at least one non-dirt racing game in my library.
Re: Hot game deals
Steam sale on, hypothetically; I can't access the site so I'm thinking the server's probably buckled under demand.
A lot of the usual suspects are marked down. I keep meaning to check out Cities: Skylines.
I hear mostly-good things about Owlboy, except that it constantly interrupts you with dialogue.
GMG's got Civ 6 marked down to $46; apparently you can take another 10% off with code WINTER10.
The new Shantae is $2 off. That's not much but it's 10%.

Re: Hot game deals
Witcher 3 expansion pass marked down for what I'm pretty sure is the first time ever.
Re: Hot game deals
DiRT Showdown is free for the next day and a half.

Re: Hot game deals
Have any of you ever subscribed and unsubscribed right away from the Humble Monthly? I think I've bought a humble bundle once ever and I've never used the monthly service.
This month, they're giving away XCOM 2 if you sing up for a new subscription. The monthly fee is $12 and it states you can unsubscribe "anytime", and most of what I've heard about Humble indicates their policies aren't too horrible. But of course my instinct is that this sort of thing never works out as planned. Sounds too good to be true and all...

Re: Hot game deals
It is my understanding of the system that you subscribe, are immediately charged for a month and receive keys, then will be billed every month the week before that month.I don't know if that means a week before the first day of the month or what exactly, but if you subscribe today, receive it, and unsub you will only pay $12 and receive Xcom2.
Re: Hot game deals
I've done exactly what Beat describes, twice (for South Park and Stardew Valley) and quitting the subscription works just as described. They try to talk you into just temporary suspending your subscription for a month instead, but if you say no, I want to cancel, they'll let you cancel, no trouble.
I'm not sure what happens if you pay, download XCOM 2, and then immediately cancel, since both times I've done it I've paid and then waited to see what the next month's main game was before I cancelled. I assume it would be pretty much the same thing, though.

Re: Hot game deals
Yeah XCOM 2 is still currently $80 on Steam, so even $12 US is still an incredible deal. So good it gave me pause, like "Okay there's no way this works". Probably pick it up then.
Re: Hot game deals
Well, good point, so I grabbed it. Now I see this "the rest of the bundle will unlock Feb. 3rd" and I wonder whether that means the thing I just paid for, that Xcom 2 is part of? Should I wait to get the DLC until I see whether it's included in the rest of the bundle? Uggggh this model is garbage.

Re: Hot game deals
You should get keys, I would imagine (I would assume it'd be the Steam version of XCOM 2, no?).
However, it seems like they're selling a dirty line after all and you're paying for two months: There's 19 days left in this Humble "month", you don't get the XCOM key for 15 days, and beat says you have to cancel at least week before the next month to avoid being billed for a second month.
Well shit. Thanks for, uh, taking one for the team I guess. $24 for XCOM 2 is still a pretty good deal at least.
