GameStop has the $200 1TB Spider-Man bundle deal going too.

Bit the bullet and ordered one. (And found a refurb SSD for relatively cheap, so I wound up getting both things. Perhaps eventually I will find time to play Spider-Man, get Persona 5 and play that, and play some of the PC games I haven't played yet, such as Hollow Knight and the various Obsidian RPGs I got in a Humble Bundle and maybe finish The Witcher 3? It's supposed to run pretty well under WINE/DXVK now and I hear Lutris takes most of the hassle out of configuring it. Maybe buy a used copy of RDR2 someday? But no rush on that; I haven't even played the Undead Nightmare expansion of the first game yet. I just bought that, too. And I'm still working on Zelda, and I never finished Xenoblade even though I OC'ed my PC just so I could play it in Dolphin, and and and...)

Subnautica is being given away free by Epic Games until the 25th. Note that this is NOT the Steam version - I have no idea of cross-platform-play is possible.

They're pretty serious about getting people onto their new platform!

It's designed as an isolated solo adventure in any case, so that's not much of a limitation. Despite that a small team of insane modders are hacking a multiplayer mode, making that launcher-agnostic would barely register against the impossible technical hurdles they've already cleared.

But without time capsules, how will I pass along my collection of "Hang in there, baby!" posters?

(seriously, I have half a dozen or so that I've picked up out of various capsules).

Looks like 'free game on Epic store' is going to be the ground state for a little while, and they're letting us know about the next one in advance too, which is nice. (Super Meat Boy pegged for 2018.12.28 to 2019.01.10) Guess Adam Smith was right about competition.

Also much of the kibitzing about the new store misses an important demographic. Sure it's mostly Fortnite kids that already have a login ready to go, but it's also anyone interested in game development enough that they installed the Unreal engine one time. Watching this space with interest.

There's a Humble Sonic Bundle on right now.

I've been wanting to check out Sonic Mania but I'm not happy about the whole Denuvo thing; I was thinking of getting it on PS4, but it occurs to me that if I get it in a Humble Bundle, I can adjust the sliders, give the whole $15 to charity (I'm thinking Arizona Immigrant and Refugee Services), and then hey, I may be getting a Denuvo-infected game, but at least I'm not giving Sega any money for it. I guess that's rules lawyering (like that time I was boycotting Marvel but went to a free Avengers screening), but I can't bring myself to feel too bad about it.

Plus, hey, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection. I gave my nephew an old Genesis awhile back and he's gotten into Sonic, and there really aren't that many Sonic games with good multiplayer; these are two of them. (Or at least I remember Sonic Adventure 2 is. I've never played the racing game. I see it's Overwhelmingly Positive, so that seems like it's good? Also, what's the difference between that and regular Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing? Is there any reason I'd want both, or should I give the latter away if I get the bundle?)

S&S All-Stars Racing Transformed is the sequel to S&S All-Stars Racing; they're different games that came out about two years apart, with different tracks, slightly different rosters, and a neat mechanic in the second game where certain portions of the tracks have your vehicle turn into a boat or plane. I haven't played the first one, but I spent a lot of time with Transformed and it's really really good. I'm not sure how much of my enjoyment derived from my nostalgia being tickled for critical damage (there are levels themed after Shinobi, Golden Axe, House of the Dead and Skies of Arcadia, oh my), and I don't know how it stacks up to Mario Kart because I haven't played any MK since the N64 era, but either way I had a lot of fun with it.

Somewhere out there, Diddy is sobbing quietly.

Today I stumbled upon solo dev Tom Au, aka Valorware, whose PC/Android/iThing RPGs are currently on sale for about a dollar each, and will only double in price when that ends. They split the difference between ARPG and early Ultima style questing and seem to have formed a loyal fan community with solid engagement and support by the author. A likely gem in the slushpile.

There's a rather good Square Enix sale on at Humble right now. A lot of the SE sales are Eidos-centric, but this one's got your Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests and such too.

Unfortunately pretty heavy on Denuvo.

Also, they've got A Story About My Uncle free.

Damn, $35.99 for DQ11 is a hell of an efficient money/hour ratio for your entertainment needs. (Yes I know there was a PS4 sale for cheaper earlier but it is not as pretty and does not have the music mod)

There's some other good stuff in the Humble sale, too. Disney Afternoon Collection is currently $8; I think I might snag that. Mega Man 11 is $24 and recently Denuvo-free.

Deponia is free at Humble.

Plus there's an "encore" of the winter sale, so if you wanted something and didn't get it, you may have another chance. (Not everything that was on sale before is on sale now, though; no more screamin' deal on DQ11, for example.)
