The strike is getting surprisingly little coverage in the US, and little enough of it is mentioning the striking workers' specific call to boycott major subsidiaries like Whole Foods, Twitch, Audible, IMDB, etc. There's a limit to how much the AWS monopoly can really be avoided, but at least some solidarity and harm reduction is pretty within reach.

Oh man, fuck Whole Foods.

To be honest we lapsed going there years ago because more and more regular grocery stores had what they were originally the only ones offering and not out of any moral choice. But I sure wouldn't go back now.

GOG's running a sale with a bunch of first gen classics (Starflight, Ultima, Wing Commander) for a dollar or two apiece if there's any gaps in your collection. https://www.gog.com/games?price=discoun ... elease_asc

I'm okay with playing Pocket Edition but I don't think I can recommend it to people who haven't played FFXV already. Wouldn't be surprised to see the normal game get ported in the next year or two; this one just got dropped now because porting an Android APK to Switch doesn't take a lot of work.

What are the differences? So far it seems like it might be dumbed down a bit, but I can't really tell as I haven't played a Final Fantasy since 9.

Most of the open world content is cut, which is the real meat of the game. FFXV is generally at its worst when you're forced to do linear story progression. And watching the cutscenes with the static-faced Funko models is just... odd. There's a lot going on with facial expressions and such that you just don't see in that presentation.

System-wise I wouldn't necessarily take either one over the other, you're just switching awkward console gameplay for awkward mobile gameplay. But if you can't go on a roadtrip with your buddies at any time to hunt down legendary beast meat to put in your Cup Noodles, then what's the point?

Bunch of single day 100% off sales on Itch for Hallowe'en. Note that they're listed as 'on sale', which is not the same category as 'free'. https://itch.io/games/on-sale

Okay, I think this is all of them:

Best Buy's Black Friday sales will include a PS4 Slim 1TB with Spider-Man for $200, starting November 18 (note: not Black Friday, nor even a Friday).

I've got a couple of policies about Black Friday, which largely amount to "I will not jump through any hoops." Want me to go to the mall on Black Friday? It ain't happening. Want me to buy something online on Black Friday? Sure, okay, if it's in stock, but I'll be goddamned if I'm going to sit at my computer repeatedly hitting Ctrl-R at 2 AM.

If I can get a 1 TB PS4 with Spider-Man for $200 without having to go to a brick-and-mortar store on Black Friday? Tempting. I mean, I'd go to the local used game store and see what PS4s are going for used these days before I'd get it, but if the local place can't beat that price, I'd definitely think about it.

But I think it's likelier I'll just spend $160 on a 1TB SSD so I can put more games on my HTPC. I don't know why I thought 250GB was enough.
