IWD is basically a (very good!) pure combat game that lives or dies by how much you like Fighter Voice 5

I played NWN:E recently and it held up very well. I don't think I need to explain details of NWN to Thad, though.

I played IWD for the first time when Enhanced came out and did not enjoy it at all. Paco's explanation pretty much covers it. It was like anti-planescape where you need to be prepared with every type of combat skill a party can have, and will basically never need social skills.

BD2 was the first of all the AD&D games I played so I may be bias, but I think it's the best. Big, sprawling world with a long story that you're a main player in, but kind of secondary to the moving parts. Plus Imoen leaves like an hour in which is great

Third I'd split between BG and P:T depending on which one you've played the least.

BG2 is the obvious choice, here. The story holds up, and IWD is basically a (very good!) pure combat game that lives or dies by how much you like Infinity Engine combat - which of course you can't know if you haven't played them before.

I'm kinda feeling the idea of playing NWN again. :/

I have played NWN (as Beat notes), but that's Aurora Engine. (The first Witcher game is too, but heavily modifies the combat so isn't germane to discussions of the combat system.)

NWN, or Icewind? I do remember the base game of NWN being unimpressive but the mods giving me many hours of entertainment.

Anyhow, I haven't tried the Lutris thing yet because I've got other shit I'm working on, but what the hell, it's ten bucks; I'll probably go ahead and get the two BG games and Planescape.

NWN. I forget which very similar acronym is which but the underdark one followed up with the epic campaign are both great.

Anyway, the important thing is that you play Torment. The first truly great use of the CRPG as a storytelling medium imo. I've played it a dozen times and keep finding new things.

When you make peace with the insane incarnation by speaking Urdu or whatever it is, it's not because hearing the language is a psychological trigger for him; it's because you're the first person who cared enough about understanding him to bother learning it

I've got a lot of games on the old backlog (though I'm 4 bosses deep into the last-boss gauntlet of FF15, at which point I'll...be able to move it from "games I haven't finished" to "games where I haven't finished the DLC"), but I have had my eye on The Messenger for a little bit. It's an indie homage to Ninja Gaiden that I've heard some good things about.

Mega Man 11's on sale, but it seems like it goes on sale about once a month.

Yakuza 0 wouldn't be a bad choice. I don't remember if it used to have Denuvo or not, but it doesn't now; Sega's started removing it from some older releases (including Sonic Mania -- speaking of which, $2.50 for the Sonic Mania DLC doesn't sound too damn bad, even if I haven't completed the main game yet, or even started it as Knuckles or Tails).

Went all-retro/indie and bought Messenger, Iconoclasts, and Tanglewood.

Tanglewood is a Genesis ROM bundled with an emulator. I copied it to my EverDrive and it plays on my Genesis.

If you've got Borderlands 2 on Steam, the Commander Lilith DLC is currently free.

Even if you haven't paid any attention to the Steam Summer Sale Event, if you have been playing any Steam games at all over the last week you may have gotten enough points for the $5 off coupon reward when it ended today. They stack on checkout if you have enough points for multiple and need to be used by 1PM (ET) tomorrow.

Last of Us Remastered effectively free with Prime membership: if you're a Twitch Prime member (which is free if you're an Amazon Prime member; you need to tie your Twitch account to your Amazon account), you can buy the game for $15 and get a $15 Amazon credit.

In the spirit of buying the dip on this blessed Black Wednesday, Fell Seal is 30% off on Steam (daily deal).

It was also just released on Switch so pick your poison, guess.
