Freeware/Indie/Miscellaneous/Etc.
So we played this online version of Cards Against Humanity a while today with Zara and Romo and a couple other people that popped in. It's pretty fun, if a little glitchy, and many of the fan expansions are a huge waste of time, but this was a good time nonetheless.

Re: Free Online Gaming
Ah, good, we do have a thread for this.
Untrusted, a game that defines itself in javascript and which you win by editing the javascript.

Untrusted is neat!
I had a very hard time finding the editable region on level 8, though.

Re: Free Online Gaming
The jQuery level was definitely the hardest one for me.
Re: Free Online Gaming
Untrusted hits that kind of creative sweet spot that Scribblenauts did, for me.
Re: Free Online Gaming
Now that I've done (to some extent) the intended way to do the levels, I'll have to run through it again trying to break it.
Re: Free Online Gaming
I'm not sure what breaking it entails for a game like this...

Some solutions are more potent than others, such as the one where you overwrite the function used to validate levels so that you can just place an exit next to the player.
Re: Free Online Gaming
For those of you who enjoyed Untrusted, give Google's XSS game or Gruyere a shot.
Re: Freeware/Indie/Miscellaneous/Etc.
After scouring the existing topics, I decided to rename this one as an all-purpose indie gaming thread.
So this guy made a game called "Tobias and the Dark Sceptres", and then he made a video, "The Game That Time Forgot", about the process of making it and how to avoid the mistakes he made. I've seen it popping up in a couple different places now.
Gotta admit, that last A that he struggled with feels pretty familiar.

I'm not convinced there's a single more tragic thing than the sunk cost fallacy as it applies to time. Least he's happy with what he made though, more than a lot of people can say.

Eh, I'd argue that when you spend that much time doing anything, you learn a lot. Might be a lot about what not to do, or what mistakes you tend to fall into, but you learn, which is ultimately hugely useful when you're working on something worthwhile and you want to make damn sure it succeeds.

I almost stopped working on Eversion 2, until I realized it would be the third sequel of a game of mine I gave up on halfway through development.

In the category of free little web shit, have color, a game about colors.

Tried playing Street Fighter 2. Key binds are unintuitive, but include some MAME defaults.
Use tab to open a menu and adjust keybinds as desired. Some of the default keys are listed below.
Gamepads get detected but getting them to register as inputs from the tab menu is spotty. (Was using an xinput wrapped controller for input.)

Arrows – Move
Ctrl – Action Button 1
Alt – Action Button 2
Space – Action Button 3
Mouse – Analog Control (needed for some games)
P – Pause
ESC – Quit MAME
F2 – Service Mode
Tab – MAME Options Menu

Wow... first game on there is Dune 2. <3
Re: Freeware/Indie/Miscellaneous/Etc.
Scumhead has a few Doom total conversions; I haven't played them but I like the graphical style and I hear they're fun to play. Shrine and Shrine 2 are described as "eldritch body-horror FPS's" and Lycanthorn and Lycanthorn 2 are described as "a 3D Castlevania inspired action platformer" and "a 3D Castlevania inspired first person adventure" respectively.
