Ovine by Design are a pair of indie freeware devs that have spent decades making high quality remakes (and occasional sequels) of classic 8 bit computer games you've probably never heard of, mostly from the BBC Micro heritage. They've since moved on to the post-modern programming craft of stuffing modern game ideas back into original hardware.

Of particular note are the online multiplayer build of Jet Set Willy, Paradroid, Imogen and The Nameless, an unofficial sequel to Exile, a 1988 2D Immersive Sim that was accidentally crowded out of Google results by Jeff Vogel's RPG series.

You may or may not recall that, a few years ago, around seven dozen interactive fiction authors came together to write a tribute to Michael Gentry's cosmic horror game "Anchorhead". I was one of those authors! The resulting game was overwhelming in several ways—I've never finished it myself.

Over on one of the main IF forums, a guy has spent the last couple months completing a Let's Play with commentary, speculation, and appending most of his updates with raw transcripts, saved games, current inventory and map listings. It's been a lot of fun to follow, and he should be finishing the game today:

There are some incredible rooms in here, some of which could entirely function as standalone games with only a little modification. I am particularly fond of the Meatpacking Plant bathroom, which is encountered towards the end of this post:

Daggerfall Unity does what it says on the tin.

It doesn't include the assets; you'll need to download Daggerfall separately. It's been a free download on Steam and GOG for years.

“It‘s kind of depressing”: WB Discovery pulls indie game for “business changes”

Warner Bros. Discovery, as part of its ongoing effort to stretch the definition of "entertainment company," recently told a solo indie developer it would be "retiring" his 2016 dreamlike puzzle adventure game Small Radios Big Televisions from the Steam and PlayStation stores. The developer, in response, has made it free to download for PC, giving us a rare chance to actually experience the thing that a giga-corp has determined to be not worth your time, before it is wiped from the archives.
