I miss games where you could actually set up things like that.

Nah, you can just cast the second one, and the new way these rules work means you get to pick one to keep.

Magic 2015 will feature "Special Guest Star" card designs by "Famous Game Designers":

This from the PAX panel.

I, uh... We'll see, I guess?

The worst conversation I heard so far was along the lines of:

Dude: "I hope Gabe and Tycho's card is a wolf"
Bro: "That would be a dick move!"

So there are a fair number of people upset at the fact that there is a list of 15 names without even a single token woman on it (me, I think the idea is already stupid and gimmicky in the first place and that the cards will mostly be designed by R&D anyway, but I digress). This brought up an interesting question: What women of similar stature could you even ask to participate? The list of female game designers is not large to begin with and the list of prominent female game designers is far smaller.

I mean off the top of my head, there Roberta Wilson and her protegé/student Jane Jenson. More recently there's Portal's Kim Swift. While there must be a few others, I can't name any myself. Not that I could even name that many famous game designers period (half the names on that list I couldn't have named), but still. I mean I can't even find any reference to famous female RPG designers, which seems absurd.

So I just got what is now my favorite version of Demonic Tutor (except the $250 judge promo):

Oh hell yeah - that's the only one with the Goethe Faust flavour text.

They used to do different flavour texts for the different language printings. It was really cool.

I didn't even realize that it had the quote from Faust as the flavor text when I ordered it, I just picked it up because the one I had already was a boring English white bordered one.

I like white bordered cards because they enrage a certain percentage of the playerbase.

I usually (mildly) prefer black borders, but I do prefer Unlimited to Beta, which is sure easier on the wallet. :nyoro~n:

I prefer black borders because it makes it easier to fetch for my Revised duals because there's usually only a couple other white borders in a given deck.

Went White at the prerelease, pulled an Athreos.

Someone at the same event pulled a God Pack (all 15 gods in one pack - apparently it's a thing they're doing)

Neato keen.

I'm not going to be buying much of this set - Theros block has been EXTREMELY weak for Legacy. But it certainly seems much more interesting, with many more good cards for Standard than the previous two as a percentage of set size.

Well, they finally went and did it: Foil Force of Will is real

It's got that horrible art from the MODO FoW, but then, I'm actually pretty thankful for the fact that it's so fucking ugly.

Foil FoW is like one of the all-time collector holy grails - every nutbag on the block has been waiting years and years to get one (or four. Or sixteen) for their cube/EDH deck/Legacy deck. The price FLOOR on this is probably $300. Maybe even $500 if quantities are small enough.

I might've been willing to join that fight for great art, but I think I'll be very happy to pass on this.

Though to be fair, it's pretty fucking hard to top the original art for FoW.

Out of what's spoiled, I think I want Elesh Norn and Hanna. Especially Hanna.

I'd probably put the foil FoW into my Progenitus deck, just because it will be ungodly expensive. I also want, for Progenitus, the judge promo Demonic Tutor, Book Jace, a foil Japanese Progenitus, etc - because Progenitus is my "look at how much I've invested/wasted in Magic" EDH deck, with all 10 original duals, all 10 fetches, 18 planeswalkers including Mind Sculptor, Tarmogoyf, Force of Will, etc.
