I liked Record Keeper but had to kill it with fire off my phone because it was hitting my dipswitches too hard. BUT I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I NEVER LET MY STAMINA SIT AT MAX, THAT'S WAAAASTING IT.

Luckily the Celes dungeon came along with its incredible neediness for attention to show me what had to be done.

So ridiculously into the idea of what I imagine this game could be but it almost certainly won't.

After nearly two decades of being the designated driver I'm happy to see he finally have a sandbox world where other fuckers drive your ass around.

I'm thinking I'll probably check out Type-0 once the PC version goes on sale. I really dug Crisis Core.

Everything I've heard from people who've tried Type-0 is that it's hot trash, so maybe look into it a bit before putting down money for it.

Parish liked it, with the caveat that it's obviously a PSP game with a fresh coat of paint and it shows in the graphics and interface. That seems to be the consensus around Metacritic, too.

Given that I'm already emulating PSP games on my TV, I think it's probably up my alley. But I still don't want to pay $30 for it.

I have Type-0 and first of all let me just disabuse you of the idea that this game is Final Fantasy for grown ups, which is something I heard going around based on the trailer/opening movie where motherfuckers straight up execute a chocobo. No. The story is dumb. It is not good. FF for grownups is Tactics Ogre.

The game is Just Okay. It's clearly the spiritual successor to Crisis Core, except Crisis Core wasn't grindy as shit, had really likable characters, and added a lot to its source material. The playstyles of the various Kristaljugend ARE pretty varied and that's neat, but there are clear winners and losers (oh, Eight; I WANT to like you!) and the grindiness will set you back a long way if you get 20 levels in to a guy and decide you want to first-string somebody else. If you're going to play it, pick six characters to focus on (including Rem and Machina, who are both pretty good, helpfully) and abuse the SHIT out of Secret Training by adjusting your PC/PS4 clock.

If the PC version doesn't have secret training or adjusting your PC time to exploit it is not feasible for whatever reason, Type-0 is absolutely not worth bothering with.

Trying to place Cloud's voice. Is it Ezra from Rebels?

It's Nolan North and/or Troy Baker. It's a voice in a video game.

Still sounds like Steve Burton like the last things he was in to me.

It is clearly neither one of those people.

Yeah, that makes sense. Been awhile since Crisis Core and I've managed to avoid the rest of the FF7 spinoffs. Don't really know what else I'd recognize him from; I saw Last Castle once in the theater but I'm pretty sure it's not that.

FF7 Remake is going to be episodic.

IGN: This Is Why the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Is In Multiple Parts

"One of the main reasons why we haven’t done a remake until now is because it’s a massive undertaking to reconstruct Final Fantasy VII from the ground up with the current technology," said Kitase. "To a great extent, we just couldn’t take the plunge. Producing a proper HD remake of Final Fantasy VII that maintains the same feeling of density of the original results in a volume of content that couldn’t possibly fit into one installment."

"If we were to try to fit everything into one installment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of Final Fantasy VII. But there would be no point in doing that," added Nomura. "For instance, players will be able to explore many different areas of Midgar in this game that they couldn’t access in the original─if we’re remaking this world, we want to add in areas like this and depict them with real detail.

An entire game's worth of content that's just set in Midgar could be pretty great, if handled correctly.

On the other hand, they could just be nickel-and-diming us.

I'm sympathetic. If it is going to cover every area in Midgar and follow the plot of the game more or less...
That's an INCREDIBLE task. So much environment to model and area to cover and not to mention dialog to record.

Yeah, I can agree with that. The FF7 remake can't have less detail than the original, and the original was impossibly intricately detailed, even by today's standards. Imagine rendering Corneo's garish, messy mansion faithfully with 3D assets, and then think about minor locations like Johnny's house, with all his childhood toys spread out on the floor by his nostalgic parents. The whole endeavor is borderline crazypants.

Happened to run across the FF Steam modding forum; looks like there's some promising work going on there. They've managed to extract the sprites from 5 and 6; presumably the goal is to replace the graphics with the SNES versions but so far all they've managed to do is turn off the bilinear filter. Worth keeping an eye on, though.
