Ah, yeah, that's supposed to be a lot better. In the Playstation one, a single level gap basically made people completely useless, so between every story mission you'd have to hop in the training grounds and have all your mooks punch the person who'd gained a level until they all matched his level.

A Q*Bert adventure would be interesting, although I'd keep the perspective and movement of the original game.

Fighting Game Idea: choosing between a tag team and perks.
By perks, I'm talking about things like extra health, faster Special build, better normal damage, invincibility/armor on certain attacks, expanding range of projectiles and so forth. And you'd be able to choose which perks you'd take into the fight... at the cost of tag team partners. My thinking is like this:
1 Character gives you 3 Perks
2 Characters gives you 1 Perk on each character
3 Characters, no Perks
By perks, I'm talking about things like extra health, faster Special build, better normal damage, invincibility/armor on certain attacks, expanding range of projectiles and so forth. And you'd be able to choose which perks you'd take into the fight... at the cost of tag team partners. My thinking is like this:

Capcom vs SNK 2 had a tag mode where you had four points to assign to up to three characters. The more points a character had, the more damage they would do. You could go for a sweep with a four point character against an opponent's 1-1-2 team, for example.

Yeah, I was thinking of that and Skullgirls when I came up with the idea. I always heard that in CVS2 the problem was that 4-point characters dominate, whereas in Skullgirls tag teams are the way to go. As such I think the perk system would make for a happy balance.

Chess RPG
An RPG with Chess combat basically. You can conscript different classes (pawns, rooks etc) and instead of random battles you fight random chess battles. Lots of new units (wild boars, dragons) and magic spells (Imagine a Queen that has Ultima and Reraise!)
