I don't have a link handy, but the next Pokemon game is going to be an IRL GPS-based MMO like Ingress. You will actually have to drive around outside to catch Pokemons.

I want them to put Mew right dead center of the Yuma Proving Grounds.

Ingress (an augmented reality game by the company that Nintendo's working with for Pokemon Go) has a regulation about portals needing safe pedestrian access, but apparently that just requires -somebody- to have safe pedestrian access so there's a bunch of not particularly easy to get to portals - like when one team captured a portal at the chapel in Guantanamo Bay and linked it to a NASA water tower in a secure facility off the coast of Virginia, making it really hard to send trans-atlantic links for a while because almost nobody could legitimately get to either end point to capture the portal and take down the link.

My buddy was like "If Meowths aren't found in only cafés and bars, no deal."

Also, I am reminded of Google's gag Pokemon map from a while ago, when you had to go to Centralia to get a Moltres.

Capcom certainly could have picked a better date to reveal this guy.

Nintendo's new president has been named:

http://kotaku.com/nintendos-new-preside ... 1730475135

Kimishima was Nintendo of America’s president from 2002 to 2006 and succeeded by Reggie Fils-Aime. Prior to that, he worked at Sanwa Bank in Japan for nearly three decades. He was also the Chief Financial Officer of the Pokemon Company and later, the president of the company’s US arm.

Doesn't sound like the kind of guy that'll do puppet shows, no.

Doesn't look like one either. That is one dry-as-fuck expression.

Still, the canned statement isn't so bad, because it seems like he's smart enough to realize that ain't none of them getting any younger. If he's good at cultivating new talent (or knows how to find guys who can), maybe that was the whole reason he was chosen. Pointless speculation?!?!?!?!

It's not a bad CV. His service in multiple branches of the company suggests an awareness of a lot of different products in the line, and heading up one of the foreign divisions suggests somebody who'll care about the markets outside Japan.

He doesn't feel like One of Us the way Iwata did, but he's got a much more diverse background than Yamauchi.

Right. He's not exciting in any way, shape, or form, but considering how much of an aberration Iwata was in the business world, it's not really his job to be exciting.

Hehehe, they did it then because it happened to be when a video game related conference/expo thing was happening in Dubai.

Nice.

Nintendo announces restructuring: hardware/network divisions merged, software divisions merged, new division for mobile/licensing, and Miyamoto and Takeda moved into advisor roles.

Oh, man. Destiny continues to stick it to anyone who doesn't buy the expansion.

Seriously, screwing first-year buyers on the pricing was a massive fuckup, but actually locking people out of content they already purchased is going too damn far. Call a spade a goddamn shovel: That's not an expansion. That's a subscription.

Destiny is aggressively bad, but my roommate's gotten back into playing it because Nathan Fillion and the Taken King really did fix some of what was so shitty about Destiny's Year Long Pay Us For The Privilege Beta

Possible voice actor strike looming. They're asking, among other things, for residuals on games that sell at least 2 million copies.

SAG-AFTRA is also seeking additional "stunt pay" for performances that are "vocally stressful" and to have stunt coordinators available when motion capture or movement is involved in the recording. The union wants to have some basic information about game projects before accepting an audition; publishers often keep this information under wraps out of fear of leaks. The union also takes issue with publisher proposals to fine actors and agents for being "inattentive" during a job or refusing to go to certain auditions.

Seems pretty reasonable to me. I know, I know, Thad siding with talent over publishers -- who could have possibly seen that coming?
