Brontotheme Colorgeddon

Postby Mothra » Mon Jan 20, 2014 7:56 pm

Alright, I'm going to recolor this whole biz and add some swanky new graphics, BUT, I need to pick a decent theme first, which I will install, then replace all the pictures and colors and textures of.

Personally, I'd like anything with a big background and a wide header image — like this one — but obviously, it would have to look decent on a mobile.

I'll also see if I can add the option to set your own theme, so I can have a boring work one for Thad, and maybe a really gay bright pink one for sexy times, and perhaps just a nightmarish Wrath one or something (maybe)

Suggestions so far, from Sei, include:

http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/Hestia

And of course:

http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/K_Kitty

These all look nearly the same. I guess there's not much you can do with a forums theme, but still.

My memory's a bit shot at the moment but I seem to recall someone saying there's a way to get phpBB to detect mobile and serve a different theme for it.

Short some of the web 2.0 reflection bullshit going on with the banner and top buttons, I like the look of http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/Artodia%3A+Air as a basis for other development. The icon popped out to the left of the box looks pretty slick.

Dropped in the stock k_kitty theme for anybody who wants to set it.

Once we pick a theme, I'm assuming Kabbage plans to recolour it/otherwise spruce it up?

On less than a second of previewing each theme, this one is so far the only one that doesn't just feel like I'm staring at a recolored select button dot net. This is the most arbitrary standard of evaluation I could think of.

I looked again and changed my mind. The SB resemblance is inevitable, since this is phpBB. Just pick whichever one will be the best canvas for you to slop with your majestic emissions of color and art.

Requesting a high contrast theme that's based around dark color BG to White text for easy, comfortable reading.

Also possibly an option to flip things so avatars are on the left.

Changing to the theme that's not default or Hello Kitty has left-aligned avatars.

Assuming no themes have been added since I changed my own.

Perhaps I should have been more clear. A theme that's high contrast, left sided, and without subsilver2's terrible lack of alignment when anyone has a larger than tiny avatar would be my personal ideal.

So an avatar exactly like yours, then?

Presumably Mothra is working on it, or getting around to working on it, or considering getting around to working on it.

Doesn't scale well with window resize. Voting "hell the fuck no" on this one.

Yeah, been a bit busy having my hopes lifted and crushed for a job I wanted so I'M BACK

I'll be working on it over the weekend.

Right now, I'm planning to take this amazing Christmas theme, change all the colors and icons and such, and use that as the default.

Others I liked, that might fit the bill of the high-contrast theme Def wanted:

I could rework the colors/images on this one

Liked the layout and styling of this one

This one seems pretty clean

Decent Dark theme

And finally:

Thad's blank, SFW, innocent-looking theme

I rather like Maroon Fusion. Mostly because I think Pink and Green go together amazingly well.
