Anyone else getting some board images like avatars and signatures not loading? It's not consistent - for example I can see the MIDDLE image in Friday's signature but not the two on either side.

Looks like everything affected is an imgur remote link? I simply uploaded my avatar to fix it, but can't do the same for my signature. I had a browser update today so I'm wondering if it's just me.

EDIT: I tried updating my signature to https from http (I probably haven't edited that link in 10 years, so yeah) and the https version does exist and loads as a standalone image, but the boards give an error when I try to use the https version of the url: "dimensions of the image could not be determined" and refuses to update.

EDIT 2: But then the images in Friday's signature are https already, so I dunno. There's a smattering of other imgur embeds here and there which won't load. I have no idea if this is an imgur thing or not.

Tried again today with fresh images, but I keep getting "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct." and can't replace the url of my existing signature. I suspect this is not actually a me problem for a change?

Maybe you've just got them cached?

I mean, I don't even know what to check in my browser to explain why the boards doesn't let me put in a new [img] tag image in my signature. I tried completely disabling both NoScript and uBlock Origin and forcing a reload, which did nothing.

Your own sig is blank to me, incidentally.

Appearing normal for me as well. I did a hard refresh and didn't see any change.

This is so weird. And Mothra's avatar and sig are one of the ones not showing for me either. I don't even know how to approach troubleshooting this, since I knocked off the obvious starting points (add ons).

And it's not at all consistent. I can see avatars like Mazian's or Esperath's, which are embedded imgur pics, not uploads. Or the middle image in Friday's sig. But it's consistently inconsistent in that it's the same images all the time.

If you right-click the broken images to open in a new tab, do they load there?
If yes, it's most likely a browser issue.
If no, it's most likely an ISP/CDN issue.

Was just in the middle of posting the following, was just testing the sig thing first:

Well, I was able to fix the display part of the issue. Something in the latest Waterfox update (a lot of people have been complaining about it being rushed) disabled HTTPS-Only Mode, so the browser reverted to blocking all mixed content (i.e. pages with secure & insecure items) where normally it displays passive mixed content (i.e. images) just fine. Though I'm not sure why it considered some of the images insecure as most were https links and not http. It's not a blanket treatment of imgur as an insecure site, so I DUNNO.

Still get that error when trying to upload a new signature, so that is a separate board error, but I guess that doesn't matter for now.

Uploading new signatures is and has always been a bit fucked, yeah.

Hm... curious if anyone knows of good forum software you've seen recently. Wouldn't mind moving to something more modern.

I've seen a forum software called Discourse I like a lot, but it costs money on a monthly basis unfortunately:

It looks like that's if you want official hosting, and if you can do Docker, you can self host: https://github.com/discourse/discourse/ ... INSTALL.md

I've always assumed :corncob: was named for the corncob Dril Tweet.

Just wondering... is that right?

that is a joke referring to one of the few explicit yaoi anime you could purchase in north america in the late nineties in which one of the protagonists gets to experience creative use of a buttered ear of corn so you don't actually need to google that

For context the name of the topic had been gradually shrinking for the past month before it became that.

Also I found out you can't use emoji as a board name.

I don't think you can use emoji at all. At any rate there have been times I pasted them into posts and got an error on submit.

Noticed twitter embeds weren't working again.

I looked into it, and it doesn't look like anyone's found an answer yet:
