I never finished it. I thought the bosses were too involved.

How are the other two (Illusion of Gaia and...that European one we never got...Terranigma, I think)? I'm planning on getting an SD2SNES after my bonus check comes in.

Wow, yeah.

...price is in pounds. Is "Jap" not a racial slur in the UK? That could explain it.

Then again, so could the general quality of UK newsstand publications.

It's a magazine from 25 years ago with a naked, probably underaged cartoon character on the cover. It's like getting upset at Howard Stern. Can we please not aggravate our collective outrage fatigue with stuff like this?

I don't think it's outrage in this case, more an observation of how things have changed.

EDIT: It's interesting that the English language has no direct antonym to "nostalgia", even though the word has been in common use for nearly 200 years.

Absolutely play Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma. IoG simplifies a lot of SoulBlazer's quirks on the gameplay level, but is one of the weirdest and wildest plotted SNES RPGs when it comes to moment-to-moment character stuff. If you're at all interested in seeing the secret final area/boss though, make sure to have a guide nearby for finding all 50 gems sprinkled throughout the game. You've got to nab them all to get that little extra bit, which I personally found pretty cool (the instruction manual at the time went ahead and told you where all of them were, probably recognizing that how easy it was to miss many of them was kinda bullshit).

Terranigma is one of those "man, why didn't we ever get that here?" games that definitely lives up to the hype. There are a few challenge-humps throughout (fuck off, Spain) but it's just fantastic from top to bottom other than those. They're both very deeply weird games in a way that sticks close to my heart.

Can confirm that IoG and Terranigma are much better than most games based on Japanese anime.

Yeah, Terranigma kicks ass, but fuck does it ever have some bizarre difficulty spikes where you're left thinking, "Am I doing this totally wrong or something or is this just meant to be next to impossible?" Fuckin' Japs.

Brentai wrote:Can we please not aggravate our collective outrage fatigue with stuff like this?

I'm sorry, but I'll never not point out and laugh at unironic usage of the term "Jap". The combined history of literally "US marines" getting all fired up to go slap the Japs with the eventual fear of a Japanese take over of the automotive industry in the 80s, makes it this hilariously hackneyed, Archie Bunker esque, befuddled racism that will always be funny to me.

"Did you just really identify yourself as that american/western stereotype by unironically saying the Japs?"

The only thing funnier is when Trump voter types refer to any aggressive Japanese move as an other Pearl Harbor or any Japanese defeat at American hands as being for Pearl Harbor. Blah blah blah, got'em back already about a 1000000 fold wit dem nukes, etc.

Yeah, I...asked whether it had the same connotation in the UK as it does in the States because I am legitimately curious about differences in language across cultures, which really shouldn't surprise anybody?

I'm not outraged so much as befuddled and curious.

What was the US game magazine that accidentally printed a racist rant somebody had put in as a placeholder ("little yellow bastards" or similar)? Die Hard Game Fan maybe?

There was also a Wolverine comic that referred to Sabretooth using an antisemitic slur due to the letterer misreading the word "killer". It was recalled and pulped.

I just realized that Zelda's hand is hideously deformed. Her thumb appears to be growing out of her knuckle.
