Yeah, Undertale's whole soundtrack is stellar, but I've been listening to this one every day to build my determination to get to work on time.

I was twelve when I first heard this song. I liked it, but couldn't make head or tails of the lyrics, I had no idea what was going on. I figured it'd make more sense as I grew older, it's clearly a reference soup of some description.

Well, it's nearly 23 years later and I still barely have the faintest. :D

Holy shit... so uh... apparently there's a Bob Seger album called Mongrel. It's also really fucking heavy (by the standards of 1972) :DDDDDD

Chipmunks records at 16rpm sound way the fuck better than you'd expect. Somehow the Chipmunks singing Call Me is my favorite song in years. I have vague recollection of doing that as a kid, but I don't remember it essentially turning Alvin into Jim Morrison.

!!!

One of may favourite weirdo songs is the slowed Chipmunks version of Christmas Don't Be Late, which is simultaneously funny, bizarre, demonic in ways black metal only graspingly wishes it could be (oh God, Dave's voice), and - somehow - wistful and vaguely heartbreaking.

Didn't Patton Oswalt do a bit on that?

That's how I first heard about it. Not that I head the Oswald bit, but after he said it there were like three dozen videos up on YouTube of it.

Have to be honest. I think this album is weaker than their previous two. But I've found they tend to have that problem pretty much all bands have of any given album being 1-4 very good songs padded out with a far greater number of weaker songs. So that's hardly something I can hold against Caravan Palace specifically. Some of the tracks barely have any swing components though (most notably, Russians, which is pretty much just an electro-pop track with virtually no swing elements at all).

Lone Digger and Mighty are great and I expect a couple more to grow on me at some point. Still happy to get new standout tracks from them (I am playing Lone Digger into the ground right now), even if it's only a couple. I do wish they'd added more tracks with the crazy blaring horn sound they were able to rock in Lone Digger. It's one of the few songs they've done that really goes for the Big Band aspect of swing.

So I guess there's a German version of this song, too?

Ten years ago I'd never have believed that a William Shatner spoken word cover of anything would be actually non-ironically good, much less far superior to the original, and I wouldn't expect that in some hypothetical bizzarro universe where that was even possible that it'd be an angry blue collar anthem. Then this happened. Looking back it's still pretty fucking great.
