Dang, nice. The original version kind of emphasizes how eerily beautiful the underworld is, but yeah it is also a pretty damn metal mind-bending lava-ridden hellscape.
And hey, while we're at it, on the other end of the spectrum...

All through Transformers: Devastation I was impressed by how they managed to channel the energy of Vince DiCola throughout the soundtrack.
I don't know if I'm less or more impressed that it's because Vince DiCola actually worked on the soundtrack.

Makes sense. I've been thinking pretty much from the startup screen that they clearly didn't have the rights to the theme song but got somebody to reproduce something that felt as close as possible without infringing any copyrights.
Which is more or less the same reason Bumblebee looks kind of, but not quite, like a Bug. (And I forget what they call his alt costume but it's not "Goldbug" anymore. Goldbug was terrible anyway.)

Thanks, that was great. I really like Suikoden now, and I haven't ever even played it.
Same thing happened to me with Persona 4. Though, I feel like I could play Suikoden and enjoy it, while P4's relentless bullshit grinding makes it a game best to enjoy as an anime or as a Random Encounterless LP.

Re: Videogame music appreciation thread
I'm super enjoying some of this old NES soundtrack from a strategy game about fighting Rommel in WW2 "Desert Commander" (戦車戦略 砂漠の狐 "Tank Strategy: Desert Fox" in Japan)
It's what I call a very "lazy Sunday" NES soundtrack that reminds me of times in my youth when I'd be playing some NES game I'd played too much and kind of laying there lazily and wishing I didn't have to go back to school on Monday and just not knowing what to do with myself.
So many great NES tracks, is the past expanding behind us as we move forwards?

Well, it's more thoroughly archived and accessible than ever. Boredom is kind of a fake idea by now, as long as one has an Internet connection at least; there already exists more top quality stuff to read, listen to, play and watch than anyone could ever go through in a lifetime.
Anyway. Licensed game, published by LJN, anyone want to take bets as to how terrible it sounds?
Not very!

Oh yeah, that's a Geoff Follin joint.
LJN games usually sucked, but they actually hired good composers sometimes. They were always western ones of course, which isn't everyone's cup of tea when it comes to chip tunes. That said though - even as brobdingnagian fan of Japanese composers myself - I can acknowledge that Geoff and Tim Follin are probably two of the best along with Alberto Jose Gonzalez (who is still very active in lots of game development capacities).
The Follin Bros. are of course best known for their great music for a shitty game masterpiece: THE SILVER SURFER.

Re: Videogame music appreciation thread
I just discovered this great Data East game, Dark Lord. It has a sick opening sequence too if you look it up, but here's the tunes.
This thing has some capital J Jams in it. I love the drums in The Hero's Bequest.

Oh dang yeah I'm digging it. It starts out quality enough but man that Character Creation theme rolls around and you realize this bus isn't taking you quite where you thought it would. I'm getting a bit of a Castlevania groove from bits and pieces but it's definitely no imitation.
