*bops heads etc*

I did review logs and find out that bots had pommelled fossilized last month to the tune of 5gb of bandwidth, so I went ahead and added a robots.txt (blocking yandex, baidu, etc) to it as a preventative measure. It's not so much that we have a bandwidth cap, but hitting dynamic server side scripty type pages over and over really fast tends to spike up the CPU usage, which is what I think some of the load errors you guys see periodically come from.

I got a request via IRC to enable HTTPS for viewing, so that is an option if anyone wants to be relatively securer. The catch is that some things that are loaded on fora pages (namely third party images such as anything you lot are posting, but also some of the theme assets, for some reason I can only guess is related to the third party tool Mothra uses to make it look nice) are *not* encrypted. The take away is that now the government(s) maybe can't intercept the things you read and post, but they will be able to tell that you looked at that cat gif or whatever. Still a net improvement, imo

I am most proud of the Mobile Game Adventures feat. Romosome banner, which looks fucking amazing and links to a project that got like 4 posts in before stopping completely forever

It's been a while since I whined about it, any chance of the whole "return to forum" button being changed to stay visible on tall narrow screens (like phones) where it would be extra useful? I occasionally browse Bronto on my phone from the train.

I probably can pull that off, I just have zero bajero time right now. I'll see if I can free up some during the weekend to look at it.

It seems like it isn't hugely complicated to add webm/mp4 embedding to phpBB forums anymore. Is this applicable to these boards? Is that something that could be added without it being a huge undertaking?

Done - check post toolbar for "webm".

I'd test it out but I dunno where you even get a webM video these days.

imgur hosts a lot of stuff as webms that would otherwise be way too big as a .gif.

I think Imgur mostly hosts animated stuff as .mp4. The same html works with "video/webm" changed to "video/mp4", so an mp4 tag might be doable?

Actually ...

Okay, yeah. The type="video/webm" part of the html might just be meaningless, at least as interpreted by Firefox. Same tag works for both.

Since the possibility exists for these embeds to have audio, though, I wonder if it might be possible to disable autoplay by default, and maybe turn it on by argument?

If you've got one with audio, and a general gist of what I can change in the script, I can give it a shot:

Code: Select all

<p>
<center>
<video controls="" autoplay="true" loop="true" style="max-width:1000px;">
   <source src="{URL}" type="video/webm">
</video>
</center>
</p>
