Let's all go to the movies~
Re: Let's all go to the movies~
I can't recommend La La Land highly enough, with the caveat that I think you pretty much have to like golden age hollywood musicals, and maybe also jazz. But if that's you, then this movie is honestly one of the best films I've seen in years.

This looks sweet as
I mean, Ding Sheng is by just about any account a *terrible* director, but I don't even care.
EDIT: Ooo it's already out!

I am really worried about the lack of movement in Jackie's scenes in that teaser.
I mean, he looks amazing, but I'm not ready for him to be the Stan Lee of Wuxia, showing up and smiling at the camera to remind you of a better time.

BTW Hidden Figures was good, if you get a chance to see it. Also the book it was based on was actually written by a historian and they were meticulous about keeping up the accuracy to the point of getting photos of NASA parking lots from that era to make sure they looked right, making sure they knew what random switches and buttons did inside the spaceships, and that each one was in the right location. (And unlike most Based On A True Story movies, the real life main character actually said "yeah, that's how I remember it happening" rather than being angry at Hollywood for adding a bunch of inaccurate bullshit.)

There's a couple other clips on Youtube and Jackie doesn't move much in them either. :/
I mean, I'll watch it anyway (it's basically Jackie's tribute to The General - Buster Keaton is pretty much his biggest influence), but I get what you mean, Beat. Jackie's a bit of a weird case because he's exactly the right age such that it feels like he aged right before our eyes, and because he started off so amazingly active, the effect is much more pronounced than it is for say, Schwarzenegger.

Knowing Jackie he's probably not moving because he just recently broke something.

I'd be into that.
So I was going back though this thread looking for old movie suggestions I'd forgotten to pick up (Love & Peace! I forgot I totally wanted to see that!) and I noticed this old post.
I haven't seen it, but apparently a sequel to Unbreakable actually came out: The twist ending to Split is that it reveals it's a sequel to Unbreakable when Bruce Willis' character from Unbreakable shows up at the end.
Re: Let's all go to the movies~
Calling it a sequel is a bit much. Basically M. Night directed a movie with no twist and then someone told him 'but that's your thing man!' so they hamfisted a cameo in in literally the last five seconds of the movie. Besides, at this point with other reference points like Marvel and Star Wars I'd call it more EU than sequel.

Ah.
Well, my assumption was - based on the director - that it wasn't necessarily good.

Well, for reference, Split isn't a bad movie. It's not a wonder movie that's going to win awards but it's a solid thriller.

I find it difficult to get past the gross ableism in the premise. "A man has a mental disorder AND THAT'S TERRIFYING, YOU NEVER KNOW WHO MIGHT BE THE DANGER" is kind of a shitty public message?

I misread your post as saying "atheism" at first and was briefly VERY CONFUSED.

That's only slightly ahead of the gross ableism where the message is "their disability is what makes them special!"
Re: Let's all go to the movies~
I mean it's not a mental disorder, he's a werewolf like demonic entity with the ability to morph his body physically. The people in the movie just assume he has multiple personality disorder because they are not equipped to believe he's a werewolf. It is actually outright stated in the movie that he does NOT act like an actual person with disassociative personality disorder and that the only reason he's thought to have that is both incompetence and ease of calling it that in the media..

John Wick Chapter 2 was very good.

There exists a Polish Mermaid Horror Musical Comedy Movie
Re: Let's all go to the movies~
And I hear it's goddamn fantastic. At least as fantastic as Stephen Chow's mermaid movie is supposed to be. Looking forward to catching both of them sometime, ideally as a double feature.

There is no part of that sentence I didn't like.
