Looks like this is just going to be a thing now:
Axios: Schumer calls cops after forged sex scandal charge
It's pretty blatantly forged too, and the supposed claimant wasn't involved.

Some of you may have seen this already as another bit of haha Trump is the dumbs (and sure, he is).
But I just wanted to point out Trump's error specifically is yet another sign that he is suffering from actual dementia.

Okay, I'm not sure what exactly is going on, but Fox and the WSJ are reporting that Omarosa has not only been fired, but was "physically dragged" from the White House grounds.
Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
The Secret Service has denied it.

Well, they're denying they were involved.

Sounds like someone should investigate and make sure his long-form birth certificate isn't a forgery.

Should we start an 'Election 2018' thread for the midterms? If so, just split this post off to start it.

The Atlantic's cover story for this month is an excellent longform piece on the state of Putin, and his goals in Russia and the world.
The short version is that as brilliantly manipulative as he is, his victories have always lasted for shorter and shorter priods of time, and he has no exit plan. Apparently, his worst fear is getting "revolution'd", but he keeps painting himself into a smaller and smaller corner where that may be exactly what's going to happen to him.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
So the VA house of delegates vote was recounted today due to how close one of the seats was.
It appears that the seat subject to a recount got certified as a 1 vote win for the Democrat (IIRC it was originally supposed to go to a Republican). Holy fuck.
Oh and this makes the VA legislature 50-50... in a body with no mechanism to break ties.
There's two more seat recounts coming. One where a Dem had a margin of 338 and one where a Republican had a margin of 87. This is going to be entertaining.

Did anyone catch Wonkette's reveal for the cover of the GOP tax bill?

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
VA house recount wackiness continues:
I can't believe this is actually happening, rather than being a scene in, say, an Air Bud movie.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
Because the GOP showed up after the recount was done with one extra shady-looking ballot.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
I dunno, as much as I hate the GOP, the vote looks like it was R on balance of probability:
The main argument about it was procedural, whether it could be admitted after the judgment or not.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
Sorry, wait... turns out I had the wrong ballot image. This is the correct one:
Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
I don't know what the rules are in the US and how strictly they're applied, but for what it's worth, I used to be an official election observer for the Parti Québécois a while back, and I am confident that any of the tables I've sat at would have unanimously thrown that ballot out without thinking twice about it.

Just Conservatives doing their normal thing of ignoring precedent and bending rules as a specific situation calls for.
Which like, that's supposed to be a joke about being the opposite of conservatism. But it's still just exactly what the GoP is.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
At times like this I always think about how fans agonize when a team loses due to buzzer-beater. My take is always that the loss isn't caused by the buzzer beater, but because the game was allowed to get so close that it could essentially be decided by coin toss.
Both 11,607-11,608 and 11,608-11,608 kind of feel the same to me in the grand scheme of things, no matter what letter is behind the number, you know?
Ideally though there'd be a runoff or special election or something more legit than an *actual* coin toss.
Yeah, I've done that too (it's fun!) and for sure under the rules here it would be tossed - the key rule is that votes must be clear and unambiguous.
I may hold the opinion that this guy prrrrrroooobably intended to vote R, but I can't say that with certainty.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
Idea: Both candidates must serve their term shackled together in unison, engaging in wacky hijinx while they learn the surprising power of friendship.
Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
1. Yes, I think it's pretty clear that ballot was intended as R.
BUT
2. It's also clearly a spoiled ballot. You're not supposed to accept ballots that look like that, even if intent is clear.
AND
3. From what I understand, any objections were supposed to be raised the day before, and the Republicans shouldn't have been allowed to submit this the day after the results were announced.
I dunno. This is one of those things where it's close enough that I can't honestly say my opinion wouldn't be "they should count it" if the shoe were on the other foot and the spoiled ballot favored a Democrat. I think they're bending the rules here, but on principle "bending the rules to count more votes" is something that's hard for me to object to.
I understand the Democrats looking for avenues to object and appeal. I also fully understand that, if the shoe were on the other foot, it's very likely that the positions would be reversed, that the Democrats would be saying "count it" and the Republicans would be saying "counting it breaks the rules."
I don't think there's any good result here. Best of luck to anybody in Virginia.
