Image

We hold off the undead with our bullets and molotovs.

The entire group other than Mothra gets caught and bitten multiple times. I whip out the chainsaw and charge in to the rescue. R^2's extra HP comes in handy, saving his life.

Image

The molotovs do work.

Image

A lot of work.

But then they run out.

I take command of Grath and whip out the BIG DAWG.

Each shot is like throwing a damn Molotov in how many zombies it kills. Combined with Grath's maximum shooting skill, the thing is Death itself. Hundreds of zombies fall.

I duck into a building looking for more ammo. The horde traps me inside, and it's up to Mothra with his chainsaw to get us out.

Image

The siege finally ends. We're not dry of resources, but we've expended most of them and are heavily damaged. We exit to the left, leaving the shambling horde behind.

Mongrel patches us up a bit on the way to the final challenge.

Image

Here we go.

Image

We floor it, bail, and ram the car into the horde.

Grath lets everyone know what he thinks about zombies.

Image

Image

Image

We picked up some pipe bombs during the last siege. I use a few to blow some holes in the wall of flesh blocking the way.

Image

Behind Grath's rifle, we fight our way across the bridge.

Image

On the other side, the zombies begin to thicken. I switch to the BIG DAWG.

Mothra, in the rear, clocks a zombie in the face with his LOG. Somehow we lost the Bardiche in the last map.

Image

Into the horde we go. All the zombies we ran past on the bridge are right behind us, so there's no time to kite or plan.

Image

We blast through. The Big Dawg blows just enough of a hole to make it.

Image

Past the ranks of the undead, the Canadian Border. But they won't let us in!

Image

The moose, several beaver, and a couple of Mounties armed with hockey sticks join us to face the horde.

Image

The zombies press in from all sides. I throw my remaining pipe bombs. It hardly makes a dent.

Image

Even with the help, we can't hold them back. Grath is blasting nonstop.

Image

AND THEN, FROM THE SKY

Image

MECHA MOUNTIE DESCENDS

Image

His rapid fire explosive lasers make short work of the army of the dead.

Image

I admit it, the first time, I did indeed "crap my gitch" before Mecha Mountie arrived.

The rest of the Mounties say what I can only assume is standard Canadian phrases if you talk to them.

Image

The Prime Minister of Canada, with his loyal moose.

Image

What a welcoming guy. He then blasts off into space.

Image

A Mountie leads us through the snow to our new homes.

Image

What indeed?!

Image

He resumed wandering the wasteland, punching anything in his way.

Image

Mongrel continues to whine about everything. That's no way to talk about your homeland, sir!

Image

R^2 maxed out his cooking and eating skills.

Image

Grath finally missed.

Image

Thanks for coming along on this LP! It was a blast. A Big Dawg blast.

I honestly wasn't sure we'd make it with our stats so low, but that super shotty made all the difference once the molotovs ran dry.

See you next mission!

Holy shit all the horrible Canadianisms are amazing.

Surprisingly, none of Rocketcat's staff are Canadian.

Really appreciated the gritty reality of arms dealerships being inside soldered-shut Dumpsters with payment slots.

Are there any mission options that would allow you to hotwire a Zamboni and use that to crash your way across the border? Asking for a friend.

Come to think of it, this LP is fairly analogous to how atog wound up here...

I've never had poutine but tbh I don't get why it's considered so charmingly bizarre. It sounds like a damn fine pile of comfort food.

There's no Zamboni yet (there's pretty frequent updates that add new special characters and events), but you can drive a snow plow.

Also this was awesome, thank you Friday!

• Leave Mongrel behind

(I assume you are in fact going to try and exclusively use different Brontos for any future runs).

Yeah, I'm gonna take R^2, Mongrel, Grath, and Esper out of the roster so they won't even show up. I'll leave Sora and Mothra in since they hardly got any screentime.

There are harder game modes too, like a shorter game (9 days instead of 15, which sounds easier except the final sieges aren't toned down at ALL so you just have less time to prepare and train your team) and a longer game (25 days, and the difficulty keeps ramping up, so the final days/challenges are truly insane) and both can be played on Familiar Faces mode, I'm pretty sure.

There's even a SUPER DUPER DEATH MODE that can only be played once you've cleared pretty much all the other modes, and it doesn't let you use familiar faces (because you could in theory just stock your roster with really powerful perk/trait combos to make the game easier). I am still unlocking modes and perks and leveling up my traits and shit, so that's a while from now.

Any future runs won't be as detailed, of course. We don't need to see the same events over and over. I'll just cover the new shit. Every run is different and I have yet to go on a run where I don't run into like 1-3 new things.

That detail is the biggest selling point, it takes a ridiculous amount of imaginitive content and/or some very clever dice fudging to achieve that.

This has been great so far, yeah. Sorry it took me so long to get a banner up for it.

I can't believe I'm still alive.

So I figured out what the City Seeker trait actually does. It doesn't increase the chance of rolling a rare zone.

It increases the chance that a city map will have a special building or character.

Meanwhile, in New Hampshire...

Mothra's car pulls into Kazz's driveway. Kazz jumps off the roof to greet him.

Mothra: "Hey, Kazz. How's it goin."

Kazz pulls a stray Ramen noodle from his beard.

Kazz: "It's fine. The boards are down, did you notice?"

Mothra: "Um... you been outside lately?"

Kazz: "Huh?"

Mothra scratches his head.

Mothra: "Never mind."

Kazz: "What are you up to?"

Mothra: "Oh, I just took a trip to Canada with some friends. It was... well, um, I'm back now. You?"

Kazz: "Oh, I met someone."

Kazz leads Mothra to the backyard. There, a zombie woman is milling in slow circles.

Kazz: "Brains, this is Mothra. Mothra, Brains."

The zombie lurches toward the pair. Mothra rubs his eyes.

Kazz: "She just started knocking on the door one day. We've been inseparable ever since."

Brains: "Braaaains..."

Kazz turns. Mothra is gone. There is the sound of screeching tires.

Kazz: "Well, that was nice. What a good guy."

Brains latches onto Kazz's face and begins to gnaw on his scalp. Kazz giggles.
