Re: Weather
Snow in the Sahara, reputedly over a foot deep in some places
^ Pretty pictures.
What's interesting about this isn't that it's new (it happens every ten years on average... though it's potentially happening more often), or that it's cold enough to snow (the Sahara regularly gets cold enough for snow during nighttime lows - that's the thing about deserts!), it's that it was wet enough for this to happen.

Re: Weather
I had an 8:00am doctor's appointment today. I drove there in the rain, which started sounding a bit too sharp and then was definitely ice by the time I parked. I came out an hour later to a half-inch of snow on everything. Driving home was nerve-wracking, and it was impossible to get into my driveway. I'm worried my car will get hit or snowed in on the street.
Then trying to get to work, my bus was detoured for the ice and hills, and some people came by in a minivan to take me to the transit center. I stepped on the apparently clear sidewalk and immediately slipped, then waited for another bus to take me the 15 minute walk to work. x_x I am emotionally drained from today's travel.

Re: Weather
Ugh that's sounds pretty bad. I think that same system's about to hit us today - we're dropping about a degree (Celsius, so close to two degrees F) an hour right now. Gonna hit freezing in about an hour.
As long as the rain stops and stuff has time to try a little before the temps crash we should be okay... rain's petered off for now but the forecast says there'll be more, so I dunno how bad it's going to be. Gotta go downtown, but at least we're not gonna be in the mess that'll be the commuter traffic this evening.

Re: Weather
It was raining, then the rain froze and became tiny pellets and now it's snowing.

Re: Weather
Tonight's weather: Snowing, 6°F, chance of meteors.

My friends and I saw the flash and couldn't explain it, but guessed possibly an exploding power line. Then a friend a mile away texted me about it and we got curious.

Re: Weather
Winter just doesn't want to go away it seems. Today is the first day with clear weather above 3C (37F for y'all down sout') this year... except it's supposed to rain for a week starting tonight and there'll be freezing rain on the weekend. Yay!
Re: Weather
...it is 80 degrees at 9 PM.

Re: Weather
Second day of freezing rain and snowstorm, just a weather clusterfuck... haven't had this much April snow in over a decade, easily.
More importantly, it's fookin cold here, eh.

Re: Weather
Same here. We've had 2 days of weather above the 40s since the first day of Spring. Extended forecast shows this whole week is also near-freezing snow/rain mix. And my weather doesn't have the excuse of being Canadian.
Re: Weather
Weather's all over the place this week. Forecast high of 90 today, 76 tomorrow, then up to 84, then down to 81, then 89, then 93.
Obviously the farther out the forecast gets the less reliable it is, but given the variation we've been having over the last few days, I wouldn't be surprised if those numbers wound up being accurate. We got a beautiful, mid-70s day right after that last post I wrote about how it was 80 degrees at 9 PM.

Re: Weather
It snowed 8 inches yesterday and it'll be 65 next Sunday. April in Wisconsin is a fucking crazy bastard.

Re: Weather
Yeah, it's raining now and it's supposed to shoot up to 10C (50F) today (but still raining).
Re: Weather
And the forecast calls for snow tomorrow.

Re: Weather
We're having the wettest April on record, but it's not fuckbastard cold like the winter was so I'm pretty happy.
Re: Weather
High winds today, about 45km/h. It knocked out the power at Mongrel House (I'm at the library), and there's apparently power outages all over the city. There's even the possibility that this will spin into a tornado in Quebec.
Why cant we just have a nice relaxing thunderstorm like I wanted?

Re: Weather
I saw a huge industrial ventilator torn off the roof of a restaurant tossed down on the street. Eep.
On top of all the other problems my folks are having, a bunch of shingles and roof liner have torn off their roof, exposing the wood roof below. Argh.
