We had a nice few days where it got cloudy and we had highs in the 70s.

Today's forecast high is 102 and tomorrow's is 106.

After a week of nice weather, it's now 80 (feels like 89) at 9:00 am, going on 95. I don't have air conditioning, it's really hard to sleep when it's 95 inside. Less impressive than Thad but this is _Michigan_.

Don't buy the Arizona hype. That's the kind of dry heat where you're like "man it is really pretty hot to-" and then die of dehydration and heat stroke at the same time.

But we get like, sticky and shit, it's way worse.

Thunderstorm knocked out the power last night for about 3.5 hours. So that was fun.

We had flash floods Tuesday night (only 2 hours or so of rain - but it was at times up to 200mm/hour! That's more than a lot of hurricanes.), as well as more rain yesterday which inundated parts of downtown and farther west.

Luckily no one was hurt although two guys were trapped downtown in a basement elevator which only had a foot of air left in it before the cops got them out.

Glad to hear that you're okay, Mongrel.

Man, Global Warming is a hell of a drug. This thread used to be about how hot it was, now it's about how there's a fire right next to you or a mudslide or a flash flood.

Yeah, we're in a high area here, next to the biggest valley/river in Toronto, so flooding is at least something we don't have to worry about at our address specifically.

But it's a growing problem - there's been a bunch of stuff in the news even before this about how our sewers have no overflow capacity for storms of that magnitude and that we can expect more brief-but-super-intense rainstorms which will similarly overwhelm the system.

I mean, between that and our summers getting longer and even fucking swampier (I had to delay sending out a minis painting job recently because the varnish just wouldn't dry even after two weeks - and we have A/C) that's mercifully all Toronto's looking at as far as climate change consequences go. But other places are facing crazy shit.

Of course as soon as I post that, a warning for a massive hailstorm just northwest of the city appears in the news.

Flooding in cities without the capacity to keep the streams from crossing = raw sewage everywhere.

We're not at boil advisory level yet, but this may become a thing for cities whose water supply comes exclusively from lakes and rivers affected by runoff.

It was so hot today that I legitimately thought people might die at work.

And tomorrow will be hotter.

Living in a place with a ton of rivers makes for great fishing, but its been raining constantly for like two weeks and there are three flood warnings in my county right now all for different rivers. An entire town about 20 miles away had to be evacuated. Our small city is on a hill so were fine.

Highs approaching 90 forecast for the next week. This is Michigan, you guys. Michigan in September.

I hope we get an autumn instead of just mid-summer straight into winter.

i.e. a repeat of last year. :angeryface!:

The weather turned autumn-ish here in a dramatic fashion yesterday, dropping down from an effective 104F with the humidity on Tuesday and Wednesday to a lovely 66F and a bit cloudy yesterday. It was a goddamned miracle. More of the same today.

Sadly it's gonna shoot up again to midsummer nonsense weather tomorrow.
