And rationalwiki.org is suffering some kind of outage. I'm sure that's a coincidence. Interesting comments on GamerGhazi today, but again it's all people's personal memories and no public record. I guess a problem with nuking your history is that it can wipe your personal journey as well, good and bad.

the thing is though. TB was GREAT if he saw you as his people. if you were a friend or family member of his and someone hurt you he would be ALL OVER the problem. Cheering you up and supporting you after abuse and tearing down whoever it is that hurt you in the first place.

The problem was that his temper and ego meant that he lashed out at a lot of people who didn't deserve the treatment they got. and the people who were closest to him saw a compassionate, supportive, friend who was always trying his best to make the world a better place. Cause thats also what he was.

He's also an example of how major life events can change yourself and those around you for the better. In 2011 he was the kind of person who would tweet "get cancer and die" at someone, and later would stand with the GG crowd, but ended up being a force for more positivity and good and recognizing that people can apologize and change, and that you should apologize and change because anything can happen, and you want to be decent while you have the chance.

But if he really did take a stand against transphobia more recently like I've heard, that's good.

The level of sanitizing that the internet is doing about this piece of fucking shit is fucking hilarious.

Dude never outgrew his fucking SA post. He was forever that dipshit 23 year old 'with an IQ of 155'.

Nick Meglin.

Mark Evanier wrote:But, getting back to MAD: I want you all to know this about my friend Nick. The sense of humor that permeated that magazine from about 1957 into the eighties was mainly Nick's. The editor of MAD for much of that period, Al Feldstein, was a skilled craftsman at producing a magazine on time and in giving the best possible presentation to the work of his freelance writers and artists…but Feldstein wasn't all that funny.

Meglin was funny. He wrote much of MAD's editorial material (intros, ads, etc.). He rewrote or punched-up articles that were in need of extra laughs. And he recognized comedic talent in writers who submitted work and encouraged them and guided them. At least half of MAD's best writers during that period were "found" by Nick as were many of its artists. When I researched my now-outta print book, MAD Art, I interviewed just about everyone who'd ever worked for the magazine and was still around to be interviewed. A lot of those folks told me that had it not been for Nick, they never would have had their proud association with the magazine.

Meglin was 82, but Evanier notes that this was a shock nonetheless, as he attended a convention last weekend and appeared to be in good health.

And in keeping with the Ctrl-Alt-Del theme, if you cut out the two panels weeks between the setup and the punchline, it would be...
...
...well, not funnier, but at least not bringing up a thing again two weeks after everybody stopped talking about it.

I don't really know much of anything about Bourdain or Spade. I don't have anything to say about them.

But I will say this:

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-TALK (8255). If any of you ever have suicidal thoughts, please call someone who can help.

All grumpiness and snark aside, I love you guys, all of you, and I love this community. For all that this world can seem like a rotten place, it's better for having each and every one of you in it.

BEATING YOU WITH MY COCK UNTIL CANDY COMES OUT

Of you. Not my cock. That'd be fucked up.

But seriously, yeah. These past couple years have been pretty bleak, and the world wasn't too rosy before either. Makes you want to cling to everyone like wreckage in an ocean storm.

And I'd only heard of Bourdain in passing before, probably during a Hayes/Maddow/O'Donnell commercial break. In that situation, it's kind of like something cool as you're getting hit with a tennis ball launcher: "OW! Trump-Russia! OW! ISIS and Nazis! OW! Wow, is that an okonomiyaki truck? OW! Tax cuts for the rich!" Still, damn. He seemed like a neat guy.

Koko, the signing gorilla, passed in her sleep at age 46.
