On a kick with Leon Bridges discussing morality.

Bad Bad News is too, too good.

Kinda on a slump; Halloween is gone, but never from our hearts.
And always, there is more to be done. Gotta steel ourselves and keep on keeping on, right...

Kind of want to smoke. It wouldn't be the same, though.
Never will be. So, to another day!..

Realizing Adventures of Pete & Pete and Kids In The Hall themes both put me in the same mood.

Rumor has it the song is about the Kent State Massacre, so that's fun.

Even if it's not, "guiltily I thought you had it coming" is a pretty dark lyric no matter what it's about.

The only gospel group to have ever appeared on Soul Train.

DJDiscoCat's remix, which really enhances the song with richer tones

This appeared in my YouTube recommendations.

This is the upside to constant surveillance: you know what, Google, yes, people dressed like Transformers playing Zeppelin is something I never knew I wanted to watch.

(And yes they do Dare and The Touch too.)

I wouldn't mind the constant surveillance so much if it meant Google decided I wanted stuff like this and not lots and lots of thumbnails with Pepe on them.

I got the complete Boys' Club in a Humble Bundle awhile back, but I feel like I probably shouldn't read anything with Pepe in it in public.

Rammstein have decided to put forth a comeback effort of sorts, and it's a hell of a thing. Their new hit is rather... intense.

Recommend expanding the screen to actually watch the video for it's own sake too. The production values are better than a lot of movies.

I would say that you definitely want to know the lyrics to judge, so here's the English transcript:

You have cried a lot
In the mind apart
In the heart united

We have been together for a very long time
Your breath is cold
The heart in flames
You
I
Us
You

Chorus
Germany
My heart in flames
Want to love you want to damn you
Germany
Your breath is cold
So young
And yet so old
Germany

I
I never want to leave you
One want to love you
And want to hate you
Overbearing
Superior
To take over
To surrender
Surprising
To attack
Germany, Germany over all

Superior
Needless
Superman
Sick of
The higher you climb, the farther you fall
Germany, Germany over all

Still not sure how I feel about the content myself, though musically it's a classic pounding Rammstein beat.

So, a German friend of mine from another community:
I watched the new song of Rammstein now 5 times.
And it is most likely their most powerful and direct "fuck you" to nationalism

Just for context.

Yeah, I mean the lyrics are pretty simple and more or less direct, but without translations English-speaking listeners may only recognize stuff like "Deutschland Uber Alles" without any other words for context.

Most people could probably figure it out anyway from the video, but I still could understand someone being confused.

Still brutal.

Such an amazing lyrical construction. "Big talking, small fry" is so fucking wonderful.

So, among all the wild experimentation at the time there was this oddball shortlived trend (too brief to even call a sub-genre, really) in 2nd gen rock/early soul to do songs with a latin - specifically mariachi - flavour. Like, full-on corny, stereotypical marachi. I love these sorts of intersectional songs; the collision of silly and serious, heartfelt and hilarious that these sorts of melodramatic combinations can create (which is also a common trait in actual mariachi music) makes these songs really endearing to me.

Take a Letter in particular, is musically fascinating to me, in that the hook/riff is just so incredibly generic when you really pay attention, yet somehow it's also immediately recognizable, if you've ever heard the song before at all (and it's a good fucking hook). Of course much of credit for that deceptive simplicity goes to the Muscle Shoals house band, which was Greaves' backing band on that track.

These songs are pretty much cheesy musical malapropisms, yet somehow work anyway and I love that. I wish I knew more tunes like these.

(In conclusion music is a land of contrasts).

I just love this video.

Yes, the quality is appalling, but everyone on screen is just being so damn classy. Don Cornelius at his smooth disarming best, Preston's so relaxed and cheerful all glowing with positive appreciation (reflected by his band, too), even the crowd's being so respectful without tightening up or being restrained.

It just makes you feel good.
