Re: Our Boys In Blue
Oh I mean, i absolutely reread my post over and over as can be seen, it just took me longer than a minute each time.

The person being charged here is pretty much scum, but that doesn't not make this yet another attempt to legitimize straight-up police assassinations.

Globe: A Look at a Yukon First Nation's model of community policing
This is pretty much what I've wished front-line policing was like for as long as I can recall (well, okay, they're all men for now, but I'm sure an expanded model would correct that).
To a see a community, however small, actually implement it is really thrilling, and I'm really glad they want to show demonstrable, quantifiable results that show both the savings in cost and improvement in quality of life.
Perhaps it's a bit hopeful, and for the largest cities I'm sure there's problems you'd have to work out, but it would be really exiting to see policing shifted to an indigenous-based model like this on a national level. I think if you start with small communities you could gradually expand to larger and larger ones, which would allow solutions to scaling problems to be found organically as you slowly moved towards shifting everyone to this model.

It's like the kids who get disinvited from future parties egging the house because surely that'll make them let them back in, right?
Except instead of a carton of eggs, he has a gun.

I really wish that the United States was alone in this absolute cancerous cop shit, but it turns out that Trump and increasingly horrific, murderous and violent cops are just symptoms of a disease that the whole fucking world is infected with.
Re: Our Boys In Blue
At least the Aussies are still egging people in power. Fingers crossed no one decides eggs and bullets are basically the same thing.

i forget who said it but the reason fascism will never really take control of a settler-colonial nation is that fascism is just settler-colonialism returned to the homeland, and the state of a settler-colonial nation already does all the things a fascist would want it to

Re: Our Boys In Blue
Maybe we should just merge the Nazi thread and the Cop thread at this point...
Re: Our Boys In Blue
So, remember that pig that killed the guy who was panicking, and it got national media attention when footage leaked, and you could see the guy shot to death while he was on the floor?
Yeah, the pig is getting a lifetime PTSD medical retirement.

The Police will never ever side with the protesters.
They are the enforcers of the status quo. Deluding yourself into believing that some of them are "decent people who will side with you" is just that, a delusion. I'm not saying every cop is a fucking psychopath (though many, many of them are) but the nicest cop in the world, literally the best cop in the entire world, the cop who goes home to his wife and kids and sighs and says "today i had a hard day at work" still believes, in his heart, in the status quo.
The nicest enemy soldier is still an enemy soldier. He may have a wife and kids and pray and give to charity but he is still on the side that is fundamentally opposed to your viewpoint.
Cops will never join with the grassroot. They never have, and they never will.
You are allowed (and absolutely should) to respect your enemy. You are allowed (and absolutely should) to recognize their humanity.
But they are still your enemy. Treat your enemies with respect. Treat your enemies humanely. But treat your enemy as an enemy.

Re: Our Boys In Blue
She's guilty. I'm shocked honestly. I know its kinda fucked to be shocked that a woman who broke into a man's home and killed him was found guilty of Murder but I am. Especially because the jury was asked to consider the Castle Doctrine despite the fact it wasn't her fucking house.

Wow.
I mean, if any case was going to do it, it was this one. But even so, I'm legit amazed.
