This still isn't as awful as the feds contesting the payouts amounts for abused indigenous children. Now THAT'S a whole other level of odious.
Like... They're not even contesting the fact that the compensation is owed - they're just trying to fucking nickel-and-dime it. Holy shit, fuck off with that shit right now.

I can think of some people who'd be interested in knowing the exact value of recompense needed to engage in child abuse.

Maybe they just want to return the RCMP to it's good old historic roots!
You know, 140 years ago when they were the North-West Mounted Police, a military force created specifically to crush Metis (mixed indigenous) settlers in then-nascent Manitoba.

Alcoholism has had a severe and longstanding impact on the survival and integrity of Indigenous peoples, especially in North America:
1. Once upon a time, a raging alcoholic (good ol' John A) set into motion the residential school system, forcing three generations of children from Indigenous towns and communities into psychosocial and other types of bondage, on the argument that they would only grow up to be raging alcoholics unless this was done
2. At the same time, another raging alcoholic (Ulysses S. Grant) cleared the veterans benefits backlog by sending Civil War veterans north and west into treaty lands to pretty much do what unpaid career soldiers do best; the survivors of massacres in the Dakotas fled to Canada, see above.

Placeholder for something witty that doesn't make me sound like an asshole

Anti-pipeline protesters have brought freight and passenger train service to a halt across the nation, blockading railways in Ontario and British Columbia.
And y'know what? Good. If this is the kind of direct action that needs to be taken to get results, I'm all for it.

Couldn't agree more. Shut this whole-ass country down until every single jackboot defiling native lands gets put away. Glorious.

Yeah good on 'em. It's pretty nice to see that there's still a lot folks out there who know a gross injustice when they see one.
I'm sure it's still out there, but I haven't seen much of the clueless "Why can't they protest in a way that doesn't actually bother anyone?" talk either.

I mean, Transport Minister Marc Garneau criticized it for being an "illegal" protest and, yeah, of course it's illegal. If it were legal, no one would pay attention.

Re: The Winter Up There Must Give People Brain Freeze
Well, I think we already know the government's position (though they have seemed to have figured out that the RCMP raid was a really bad look and SUPPOSEDLY aren't planning on a repeat for the rail blockades. SUPPOSEDLY)
Re: The Winter Up There Must Give People Brain Freeze
In case anyone missed it, the chiefs already detailed a route that would avoid most of these problems, but the company actively wanted to fuck them over, apparently.

Man, it's nice to see their MP sticking up for them at least.
