Ubuntu 24.04 LTS comes out in a month. If this hadn't been spotted, it may well have made it into a major version used by a lot of servers and desktop users.

There's also SynIRC, which is where a lot of channels moved when the Pyoko IRC shut down, back in the day.

Re: A Holiday Appears!
remember that for the next 1,000 years there's going to be an entire genre of games called "metroidvania" because our collective dad was drunk and mashing words together. A lot of words probably have their root in a thing one guy said once. It's just rare that you happen to know the exact...

Re: General Old Game Hardware Thread
I mentioned it in the game deals thread, but Anbernic just released the RG35XX Plus , a Linux-based Game Boy form factor handheld which will emulate platforms up to PSP and Dreamcast. It's a slightly beefier version of the RG35XX, adding Wi-Fi, a bigger battery, and a more powerful CPU. I don't have...

Friday! In the time that you have procrastinated about starting on Metal Gear Solid, they've re-released the first three games as the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection. It's released for basically every modern platform including PC.

Re: The Star Trek Thread
When DS9 went back in time to 2024, it was still 29 years in the future of when the episode aired, so it could stand as an allegory for the modern day. When Picard did it, it was a direct depiction of the modern day. ICE isn't a metaphor to explore the morality of ICE, it's literal ICE. The viewer a...

Small correction: Olaf's glide, Baelog's bow and Erik's ram were already in the first Lost Vikings.
Fun fact: The company who made Lost Vikings was called Silicon and Synapse, who would later go on to be better known as Blizzard. There are a few Lost Vikings references in World of Warcraft.

Cynical thought: Most indy developers will never have this problem with Unity, because their game will never reach the threshold of 200,000 sales.

Re: Computerus
Perhaps it's using file dates to determine what to copy. It's plausible that for some reason it's not updating the file date correctly when it copies. You can add the -c to use checksum instead of date. Alternatively, you may need -t or -a to preserve the date of the copied file.

Re: Reddit and Weep
This is a huge deal, considering how common it is to add "site:reddit.com" to searches to get good results instead of junk. I got hit with this as reecntly as today. There was an independent forum for the topic I was researching, but it's been shut down and turned into a Discord. My guess ...
