Re: "Coronavirus" is the category, dangit. (COVID-19 thread)

That's one way to interpret that data. What's similar is just straight up unwillingness, which is true, but in the larger context our overall hesitancy is less than Australia and equal to Japan, and honestly not that far ahead of other countries. But our actual vaccination rate is still light years ...

Re: Hey [%target] Whatcha Playin'?

I'm quite amazed that Prey (2017) was a AAA release. Arkane really made their name Dishonored 1 & 2, drawing heavily on the Looking Glass design ethos while making the game appealing to mainstream tastes, but it's still surprising that Bethesda backed a bid budget immersive sim in the age of tac...

Things like this, plus being vocal about your own vaccination and being honest about it to your social circle are other ways. Realistically, most people are probably in "wait and see" category and aren't driven by ideological alignment with the anti-vaccine movement. The best motivator is ...

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

Part of what he and Spielberg were complaining about was not that these were "theme park ride" movies or whatever but that the studios and the theaters were shifting to a model of only having theme park ride movies. Theme park rides are fun, but I would feel pretty exhausted if a company w...

Re: HOW WAS YOUR DAY

Legalization and regulation means I can buy a chocolate bar and know that every square I break off is 10mg. Which has allowed me to figure out that if I have about a third of that, it's enough to get me high and help with pain and help me sleep, but I'll be sober when I wake up the next morning. Co...

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

The best pitch I ever heard for a Fountainhead adaptation was to keep all the story bits the exact same but cut out all the dialogue where characters are explaining their actions. This way you don't get the pages of Randian justifications for people's actions, just them doing nasty shit to each othe...

I'd always heard that SNL is generally pretty hostile to guests suggesting ideas, but also they're extremely deferential to rich people so we'll see how that goes.

Re: Fun Facts

These things make me wonder how many accepted facts in history books and encyclopedias have a similar foundation in truth but no-one knows because they all reference each other. There's one wild haired little tenured professor in a university basement somewhere who won't talk about anything else bu...

Re: X-Men

Yes. Hmm, on reflection, maybe I shouldn't judge it too harshly considering while Ultimate Clone Saga wasn't good, a lot of the original Ultimates storylines weren't good either. We're getting off topic. Let's remember some of the bad X-Men retcons, like how Gambit suddenly became a participant in g...

Re: X-Men

Clone Saga is the other problem I have with comics writing, where even stuff that seems like a fresh take on a character gets bogged down in trying to conform to the canon just because. For another example, see Gwen Stacey repeatedly dying.

Re: X-Men

I wouldn't be too harsh on writers for setting up mysteries they don't have the answer to. It seems like a majority of the time writers don't have the answer figured out, they're more just throwing down a bunch of seeds to see what sprouts. This is especially true in comics writing, where the shape ...
