Re: Obituaries

I'm seeing BoingBoing and Wikipedia both saying that John Paragon (Jambi on Pee-Wee's Playhouse) has passed away, but no other sources as yet. Looks like the Wikipedia article's still being edited; it has a death date but no source and there's still a "this biography of a living person" ba...

Re: IT IS THE YEAR 2005

And back to Beast Wars. The cartoon series this time. Man, "Possession" is weird. It's a one-off episode that doesn't matter at all to the series arc and if you miss it you won't miss any important plot developments -- and yet, it's the deepest the show delves into G1 continuity at least u...

DQ gets "HD-2D Remake", while the first 6 Final Fantasy games are getting "Pixel Remaster". Which presumably means the GBA games getting reskinned for the umpteenth time.

Re: The Democrats Will Also Shit Themselves.

Manchin's out there doing his look-at-me-look-at-me will-he-won't-he thing again. After previously saying he wouldn't support SB1, now he's saying he'll support it with some changes . His changes are, of course, bad, but it sounds like what he's proposing might still be an improvement over what we'v...

Stepping, for the moment, from Beast Wars over to the main Transformers series: So okay. IDW rebooted its Transformers continuity back in 2019. The guy writing it now is Brian Ruckley. And what's impressed me most about his work is how he's set the story at the very beginning of the Autobot/Deceptic...

Re: "Coronavirus" is the category, dangit. (COVID-19 thread)

Yeah, my cousin was telling me the other day that her boss just died of COVID-19 after getting one dose of the vaccine.

It's a hell of a thing, seeing people let their guard down when they're so close to being able to...well, still not let their guard down, but change things up modestly.

Batman: The Adventures Continue continues, and I continue to have mixed feelings about it. There's some good stuff in Season Two #1! I like the bits with Deadman, the revelation that he and Dick know each other from their circus days, and the foreshadowing that we're going to learn more about that r...

Sigh. What the fuck is an assault weapon? Do you mean an Assault Rifle? ARs? Okay, you do. Going through old Mad Magazines; saw one had a photo of Mars on the cover that it credited to the USGS Astrogeology Team in Flagstaff. I'm not familiar with iBUYPOWER but I did a little searching and it looks like they're reputable. The main place that model's skimping is the graphics card. The GT 710 was already a low-end budget card when it first shipped. In 2014. It should probably work for just watching videos, but if you inten...

Yeah, I'd say the de-evolution chair scene and the Club Boom-Boom scene really benefit the most from it. The rest...well, it seems pretty clear the goal here is to include every scrap of footage on the work print, and that's a perfectly valid goal; historical preservation is an end in itself. But ma...

Neil Gaiman's work was an important stepping stone in inclusivity in comics, but the thing about stepping stones is that you move on to the next one. And believe me, there is only so much well-off white dudes on their late thirties can say about society. I think all that's true, but in the context ...

Super Mario Bros: The Morton Jankel Cut (VHS Extended Rough Cut 1.0) Interview In this cut, I was going for a more laid-back tone because the editing in the final film is very frantic—it doesn’t breathe and it doesn’t make sense a lot of times. I wanted to dismantle that a little bit and slow it do...
