Re: Copyrights, Trademarks, Patents, and branding irons

Company sells "Fuck the LAPD" T-shirts. LAPDF's attorneys send vexatious takedown demand. Company's attorneys send response letter consisting entirely of "LOL, no." And then follow it up with a more detailed letter which concludes, The LAPD is not expected to like the existence o...

Masnick: Bluesky Is Building The Decentralized Social Media Jack Dorsey Wants, Even If He Doesn’t Realize It I think he makes a convincing argument that what's put Dorsey off is that Bluesky's built both the protocol stack and the reference implementation, which was not the original plan but became ...

Yeah, even if his mentees included just one of Coppola, Scorsese, Bogdanovich, or Cameron, he'd have a legitimate claim to changing cinema.

Re: Obituaries

Wow, that didn't register with anyone? The opposite: I've got a lot of thoughts about Corman and haven't had time to put them all together. There have been a lot of people who have done the same kinds of things Corman did, but nobody did it as well as he did. He had an incredible eye for talent, an...

And now if you want to run the Linux-native version of Aleph One instead of the Windows version in Proton, you can use Luxtorpeda for that.

Re: X-Men

I think Cyclops needs to work on his strategizing a little bit. When dividing up the team to fight Magneto and Mr. Sinister, maybe consider where to send the guy whose bones are made of metal and the only person who can actually harm Mr. Sinister IIRC Wolverine losing his adamantium was the result ...

⋅ Lighting and sets are looking a lot better than they did in season 1. It’s amazing how SNW got something so basic so right, right out the gate. I mean TBF saying "right out the gate" kinda omits the Discovery episodes they got to use as a trial balloon. I read somewhere that t...

I guess that makes sense in isolation but I'd probably use a phrase like "currently running" instead of a word that, in this context, is typically used to mean the opposite of a miniseries.

I use some variation on the "when Marge first told me she was going to the police academy, I thought it would be fun and exciting, like that movie, Spaceballs" joke on at least a weekly basis.

Re: Deals on Things

Various Doctor Who deals on, what with tonight's premier. Humble's got a comics bundle ; there are a hell of a lot of them and I haven't read them all but Paul Cornell wrote a few and the ones I've read of his are pretty good. I don't think I've read any of Al Ewing's Who comics but he's been doing ...

Fanatical's got some deals on. Eiyuden Chronicle for $38 instead of the usual $50, Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series for $8.59, SteamWorld Dig for a buck.

Classic Marathon now free on Steam, with Classic Marathon 2 and Classic Marathon Infinity listed as "Coming Soon". It's the Aleph One versions of the games, which have been available for free for close to twenty years. But if you've been, say, waiting for a way to play them on a Steam Dec...

Yeah, the open moderation stack is what caught my eye in the Masnick article I linked. That's at least potentially a big goddamn deal. I'm still concerned about the centralization (open APIs are all well and good but having to trust a single for-profit company not to turn them off isn't, even if it ...

Re: X-Men

Yeah, I was thinking much the same. TOS was originally going to end by setting up Generation X, back when season 4 was planned as the final season. Mostly because X-Cutioner's Song and Generation X are probably the last remaining 90s stories that haven't been used. The last two Big Event stories, ma...

We've got screencaps from Batman: Caped Crusader , including some very '40s-style images of Batman and Catwoman, a redesigned Harley Quinn, and Scarecrow looking a lot like he did on New Batman Adventures. (Or, based on the text, Clayface looking a lot like Scarecrow did on New Batman Adventures? Ok...

You know, it's kind of impressive how seamlessly the old "slot Rogue in for Colossus" move works. omg I just realized that after 5 seasons of retelling stories from the '70s and '80s with Gambit in place of Nightcrawler, now they're retelling a story from the '90s with Nightcrawler in...

Went ahead and snagged Hi-Fi Rush in that Humble Choice bundle and I'm only about half an hour in but it is a gorgeous game with a soundtrack that rocks and I was already mad about the studio being shut down on principle but now I'm also mad because they made something genuinely great.

Boy I wish I'd known about threeSD before I manually extracted all my games and saves from my 2DS and copied them to my new 3DS XL! ...which I thought was a capital-N New 3DS XL when I bought it, so that kinda smarts. But oh well, it's not like I was going to play Xenoblade on it or anything anyway.
