It's been a nerve-wracking couple of weeks, but the upshot is Artie doesn't have cancer, so that's a real weight off.
She started limping a few weeks back. She had a tumor on the leg she was favoring; they checked it last year and said it appeared to be benign, but I thought it looked bigger and figured I should have it looked at again under the circumstances.
I took her to the vet. They took an X-ray and said that she had a torn ACL and should take it easy for a couple weeks. They also said that the tumor was unrelated to her limp but since I mentioned it it had grown since they last measured it and I should get it removed. There was still no sign it was malignant, but a benign tumor can still cause problems.
So I did, a week ago. The vet said they still hadn't found any signs of cancer cells in their testing but they were going to send it to a lab to make sure; she added that it had been hooked in pretty deep and she was concerned about that.
Anyhow, like I said up top, we got the results back from the lab and no sign of cancer, and they think they got the whole thing so it shouldn't grow back.
So that's a real relief. She's seven years old and not as young as she used to be, but she's healthy and could live another seven years. And her limp's gone and she doesn't seem to be in any pain; she's just about back to her old self, though she doesn't understand why we're keeping her cooped up indoors all day, and she doesn't know she's wearing the Cone of Shame so she keeps whacking us with it.
She gets her stitches out Monday, and I think at that point we can start taking her for short walks again, though I think it'll still be a few weeks before we can let her run around.
