Zoomers don't know about tea kettles.

It was pretty baffling to me that that entire discussion takes place over many long pages, including multiple parodies without that word being mentioned even once.

Oh gods. I don't know how water systems worked growing up in the New World, but over here no-one above a certain age lets water from the hot tap in their mouth because in the 80s it came from the immersion tank in the loft with the slowly dissolving pigeon carcass.

Over on this side, no one drinks hot water from the tap because it can leach more lead out of the plumbing and connections.

Plus it invariably tastes like corroded metal ass.

Today I learned about The Flying Jacob, a popular Swedish casserole which sounds like the stuff of 1950's Homemaker magazine nightmares, but is apparently pretty tasty (as opposed to Lutefisk, which everyone who isn't Swedish happily agrees is fucking vile).

If there ever was a real-world Swedish Chef recipe, it's the Flying Jacob.

This may be the best food news I've seen in ages.

But the larger lobsters taste worse, so a larger crawfish is probably similar.

Only one way to figure that out.

That's a myth. The flavour of lobster meat is mostly due to how it was prepared. A 10kg lobster can be as tender and flavourful as a 1kg lobster if you cook it right.

Sugar Factory is open in Detroit, but it looks like really not my thing. I love cute things, I love sweets, but 10,000 calorie monstrosities is not for me. And I already had a pet peeve about putting gold flake on food--

Unrelatedly, I recently discovered I have an e-cookbook entirely filled with recipes for 4 tiny mini-pies. I made one yesterday with pre-packaged fruit and it only took like 10 minutes, with using the food processor to make the crust dough. I assume Real Bakers don't use a food processor to make pie crust, but it seems to work alright! https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/ ... -mini-pies

There are plenty of Real Bakers who don't use food processors to make their pie crusts.

They get them out of the freezer in a Sysco box.

You're fine.

Can confirm this is me as well. Seeing even local small places do this is only more irritating.

So, Lexi found this fun gingerbread house kit that comes with illuminated windows. You crush the butterscotch candies it comes with, sprinkle the dust in the cookie's windows and doors, and bake it in the oven for a few minutes until the candy dust melts. If all goes well, you get lovely little yellow candy glass windows that you can light from behind with LEDs or tea candles. I thought it was pretty fun!

Of course, I had to go and make it silly and dumb.
