Things That Go in Your Mouth
Re: Things That Go in Your Mouth
The American trick is to mix the honey with yellow mustard and pretend that's a health food.
Re: Things That Go in Your Mouth
Uh? Honey comes from flowers and Mustard is a plant so yeah it's healthy?
Re: Things That Go in Your Mouth
honey comes from bees, and bees are a fruit
Re: Things That Go in Your Mouth
and fruit is a seed, and seeds are synthetic
but are synths art

I am okay with that in a way that makes me think I should not be okay with that but not so much that I am not actually okay with that.
Is this perversion? No, it is a butterfly.
But the butterfly is also a pervert.KingRoyal wrote:What you two are calling PERVERTS is what I call SOUTHERNS, who for clarification, are also PERVERTS. Southerners will put honey on anything fried.
But my town is definitely not southern. You'd think the local perverts would dip onion rings in... m... uh... m-maple syrup... or... something.
...
Oh no.
Maple and onions are a good combo.
So, y'know, have an open mind. :D

Onions make their own carmel if you cook them right!
Re: Things That Go in Your Mouth
There is nothing sadder than someone giving you "caramelized" onions that are in fact just sauteed onions.

No one wants to put in the time to get there

I do it occasionally instead of sautéing onions.

Yorkshire puddings and a bottle of golden syrup. Perfectly reasonable balanced meal.

That may be the most British thing I've ever seen you say.
Re: Things That Go in Your Mouth
So, I guess we have Swiss chard!
I'm always mystified that anything can grow anywhere. Like, plants just pop up if you get seeds wet? Magic.
But it looks like some bugs like the stuff, too; we're already seeing little holes. So I guess I need to find something to actually use this for, but I have no idea what.

That doesn't look charred in the slightest.

Aside from the obvious -- put it in salads and on sandwiches like lettuce -- you can also spray it with olive oil and bake it to get crispy, crumbly little chip things. For awhile I also took to using the big leaves in place of tortillas for quesadillas. Or maybe more like an omelet, since it doesn't crisp up like a tortilla and it's better-suited for a fork and knife than eating with your hands.

I use chard same as kale. I like it best lightly sauteed in olive oil and sprinkled with salt and pepper, as a side dish or chopped and on pasta. (Pull out the leaf-bones first.)

The grocery had local organic edible flowers this week! I think these are wild pansies.

I'm going to try making cream puffs! Hoping to prep the choux pastry batter and the pastry cream today, and pipe, bake, and assemble tomorrow. I've never done these before so fingers crossed.
It's ambitious but I did talk myself down from making Paris-Brest instead.

Choux takes some practice, but once you have that practice down it's something you can almost do in your sleep. You've done eclairs or something like that before, though, right?

Nope! Never done any sort of choux. I've read the recipe a lot of times though. If it's a Food Failure it's no great loss though.

Choux and pastry cream both look a little lumpy, but the cream at least tastes good. Will attempt baking in the morning.
