I have heard the King of the Hill revival is going to age the characters up, but that could be telephone-game reporting of a joke too.

Yeah, he's shown them as middle-aged or old in various cartoons over the years, and the first movie introduced their fathers, who pretty much looked like their older selves.

The correct thing to do is have the fathers show up again and drop a few curiously specific hints about things that happened to them as teenagers in the 90s.
