Re: Fun Facts
Two-sided floppies could be used by flipping them upside down and reading the other side.
This led to an Easter Egg in Karateka for the Apple II. The whole game fit on one side of the disk, so they encoded the other side with the game all over again, but all of the graphics flipped upside-down. Disk goes in upside-down, game plays upside-down.

Re: Fun Facts
Seems like a reasonable alternate timeline version of the guy absent the CIA mind control experiments tbh.

Re: Fun Facts
This article is pretty wild. Notably, a "warning from the Editors" entry is certainly not something you see on ordinary Wiki pages!

Re: Fun Facts
Paper cuts are so painful because at a microscopic level paper is quite rough. A knife makes a straight cut, but paper acts like a saw blade and does more damage to nerve endings. Paper also leaves behind tiny fibres, irritating the wound even more

104 years ago, the French munitions ship Mont-Blanc collided with the Norwegian supply ship Imo in Halifax harbour, leading to an explosion that killed thousands.

I was watching Three Stooges the other day and learned that Clyde Bruckman, of the X-Files episode "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose", is named after an old-time Hollywood writer-director. Prior to the Three Stooges, he wrote scripts for Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd.

Re: Fun Facts
Alice Cooper is one of those guys who is waaaaaaaaaaaaay more intelligent and thoughtful than some people give him credit for, and I've found he has an especially keen understanding of how showbiz works. Cooper's also one of those people who seem to know *everybody*, so something this like is cool but not entirely surprising.
In part that might because he got some early mentoring (and the band's first label deal) from Frank Zappa!

Re: Fun Facts
He tells some great stories on Nights with Alice Cooper.
He's a pretty beloved figure 'round these parts, local boy made good and all. I can't speak to how much the locals bought the "shock rock" act back in the '70s, that was before my time, but if they ever did they sure don't now; he's just kind of seen as a local guy who has a famous act. His reputation is pretty down-to-earth; he sent his kids to public school and I remember hearing he'd help out with their school performances and things like that.
My grandpa used to be a school psychologist and he's told me the story of having to call Alice up once to tell him his daughter was wearing a shirt that violated the school dress code.

Re: Fun Facts
Per his son, Nick Sagan, Carl was quite the fan of a good scoob (responsibly enjoyed), and that without weed, we would have had a much less productive and perhaps even less insightful Carl Sagan.
Re: Fun Facts
Carl Sagan loved weed, he even pinned an pseudonymous op-ed about his experiences in the 1960s
