Obituaries
Re: Obituaries
Am I going to hell because my first thought upon hearing the headline was "96 years old? good game"?

Re: Obituaries
Well, my first thought was "Cor, the ole bint's finally copped a packet!" and I liked her.
I'm not sure you can have a better run than she got. She also pretty much single-handedly invented the modern modern for constitutional monarchs, very clearly observing that in the 20th century it's the monarch, not the people, who must know their place.
I also find it intensely amusing Charlie the twit is actually going to use the reignal name of "King George VII", very pointedly avoiding a career as Charles III, lol.

Yeah, the monarchy is bullshit but she was about as inoffensive as you could reasonably expect someone in her position to be.

BBC's saying Charles III. Might be best to take early reporting with a grain of salt; we'll know soon enough.

Re: Obituaries
"George VII" was in the subheading of the huge main headline in the national papers, though you're correct in that I would expect the BBC to be better-informed on this.
Also how did I type James there, lmao
Well, I guess James 1 & 2 and Charles 1 & 2 are kind of all inextricable.
(for those unfamiliar with the history, the sequence is James I -> Charles I -> OLIVER CROMWELL HAS ENTERED THE CHAT -> Charles II -> James II -> Jacobean line gets booted from succession. Again. No one ever uses James or Charles as a reignal name again)

I was kind of wondering about that, but decided not to ask, because what's the point of even being an American if you don't exercise your right not to know or care how the fuck the British monarchy works?

the only time in the history of the world where being an ignorant American and not giving a shit about a topic is actually better compared to what the natives do

Re: Obituaries
Isn't Thad referring to himself? I'm having trouble parsing that any other way.
Re: Obituaries
My initial read was that he was saying you, an American, were exercising that right. Though now I can see the other interpretation as well. Oh god it's the dress all over again

I had a coworker a few years back who was unreasonably invested in the royal wedding.

Diana's been lounging outside the pearly gates with a half-brick in a sock, waiting for this moment

Just think of what she's going to be waiting with when Camilla cacks it. Definitely going to involve sunglasses and a cigar.
