Once you accept the mantra of ACAB then you're faced with a fresh dilemma: Who are you gonna call?

Yeah. It's a real problem. There is realistically nobody who you can safely call right now, there hasn't been for at least a decade, and it's awful. That's why the current system needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up.
How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.

Okay, and then who are you going to call?

Ghostbusters!

If I need someone killed, I own firearms so that I can do that myself if it's unavoidable. If I need something else, I'd google for an appropriate non-police service to call, which is what should be done anyways since the purpose of the police is to kill people of lower social stature than the person calling them.

The new organization, closer tied to social services, independent from the police, which is trained in de-escalation, mental health, and similar topics. They would carry tasers or other non-lethal weapons for immediate protection, and would be responsible for calling the police and being accountable for the police's actions if the situation does require violent response.

An idea I've seen floated around is a larger spectrum of possible responses. Like, maybe not all cops should carry weapons? And maybe we should have people trained specifically for mental illness response? Because that sounds to me like a no-brainer, but this is America, where we do the right thing after exhausting all alternatives.

And while I'm here, what the fuck?

If I wrote that for a movie script, it'd get bounced back for being too cartoonishly evil.

Seattle PD's "30 day ban" on use of tear gas lasted 2 days.

I mean, all the issues police violence and oppression of the state aside, if someone gave me a free monster truck - or tank! - and I had a place to keep it, legally, I'd probably take it too (caveat I did not watch the video, just in case he says he can't wait to run over his neighbours or something). And if I lived out in a small town without much to do I'd probably drive it around some for shits and giggles because why the hell wouldn't you? Dirtbikes, ATVs, snowmobiles... the occasional massive armoured death machine...

This kind of shit shows just shows how much of this problem exists because of federal level stupidity. Under no circumstances should the army be giving away free toys.

On the other hand maybe a clever civil rights group could pretend to be a small-town police dept...

Those things need maintenance every day, the only people that train in MRAP maintenance are the army, and there are a lot more cop MRAPs than trained MRAP technicians. Just having one of those costs hundreds of thousands per year to keep it running, let alone actual use.

I wonder if these guys think of that at all or just realize one day their toy won't even start and hey what the hell was the point of that?

(the rural cops, I mean. The urban ones are flush with cash for toys and are itching to use them, obviously)

All the more reason to tear the abomination apart and turn it into something useful, like a jungle gym or an artificial reef. What was that thing about swords and ploughs?

Massive leak of ten years' worth of data from over 200 PD's, FBI affiliates, and others.

Remember the cops who said they were poisoned by Shake Shack?

Turns out, not only were the shakes pre-ordered online for collection (making it impossible that the staff knew the drinks were for cops), the cops on question didn't even actually get sick or show any symptoms. The police union appears to have made the whole thing up.
