Got a personal story from Lexi and I. She went out the other night to go to the ATM, but I woke up around midnight and she hadn't come back yet. I started to panic when she didn't answer her phone. She was okay, but had an awful story to tell.

She stopped along the way because of a homeless woman who was in trouble. She was living in her car with her possibly abusive boyfriend, and for some reason the police saw fit to tow her car. As a bonus, her phone was in the car, so she was extra stranded.

Lexi tried to help her find a shelter for at least an hour, but everything out to San Bernardino was full. Eventually, she just got the woman a motel room for the night, but where she goes from there is anyone's guess. The police just took away what little she had with no other recourse.

This story was told to my mother-in-law with Kiddo 01 in the room. We took this as a chance to explain how the police are not like Robo Car Poli or Paw Patrol, how giving power to people like that brings in bullies, and how police are not your friends. Honestly, it felt awkward and horrible, and I'd probably have had a better time explaining where exactly babies come from.

Debated between this thread and the work thread... Some of you already heard my griping in #ff over the last couple weeks, but my work building has a cop infestation problem.

I work in the same building as the university president. It's where they hold the regents meetings. So anytime anyone wants to protest, they come there. And the upper administration calls the cops.

It is so stressful to walk by a man with a gun every time I need to go to the kitchen or bathroom. And I'm not even the ones being harassed! It's awful.

Most of my team agrees, but I was unable to get our bosses to sign a letter of objection. I should talk to the others--if they won't, we still should. President all acting like he's doing this to protect _us_. Someone needs to say out loud it makes us feel unsafe. I don't even know who to send it to, though. Also I need this job; how far can I tip the boat?

Thursday it was so bad I refused to go in to work. My boss allowed it, though he wasn't very understanding. I was surprised anyone would agree to work like that. They set up damned police barricades in front of both entrances.

Friday there was nothing, which was a relief. Until the next time.
