Shame about the poor system architecture meaning they'll never have full developer support

Florida group collecting signatures for a ballot initiative to have abortion rights enshrined in the state constitution meet all legal and numerical requirements for their petition

AG's trying to stop them, because of course they are, but it's still worth celebrating because they've done the hardest work of the process. Hopefully they'll succeed in having it added.

Huh, Ugandan women find a way to turn food waste into charcoal, helping save rainforests that are otherwise ravaged by logging? I love a good "garbage in, greatness out" story!

Also, Reasons to be Cheerful sounds like a good tab to have permanently open.

If only rainforest logging were primarily for harvesting wood-based resources, rather than clearing space for commercial farming...

In that article they mentioned that charcoal burning is the primary source of tree loss in Uganda's particular case.

I mean, it's possible the article has that wrong, but they did actually address that.

I was thinking about the Amazon, not considering African rainforests. Cynicism retracted

Apparently California met several weeks of power needs with 100% solar? Like 30 out of 38 days? There seems to be a lot of caveats in there- like this being before the real high-demand summer months- but that sure sounds like good news to me!

FTC bans non-compete agreements

The agency has said that the agreements, in which workers are forbidden from seeking a job with a competing business for a certain period of time, lead to an “unfair method of competition” and violate federal law. The vote by the agency’s five commissioners this week means the ban will move forward.

Shame how it'll be enjoined by that same right-wing judge in Texas by next month and dead at SCOTUS by next year.

(A company that's represented by a Clarence Thomas clerk's husband has already filed a lawsuit in the Northern District of Texas, so the ground work is already being laid for it going before Judge Kacsmaryk and him throwing a nationwide injunction.)

We don't have to pay attention to the Supreme Court. There's historical precedent for ignoring it, and overdue to start again.

I'm all for challenging the authority of the Supreme Court, but there are some pretty significant differences between Andrew Jackson ignoring a Supreme Court ruling against invading tribal lands and a guy who works at a sandwich shop ignoring a Supreme Court ruling about the legal enforceability of non-compete agreements.

Trial results for new lung cancer drug are ‘off the charts’, say doctors

More than half of patients (60%) diagnosed with advanced forms of lung cancer who took lorlatinib were still alive five years later with no progression in their disease, data presented at the world’s largest cancer conference showed. The rate was 8% in patients treated with a standard drug, the trial found.

As a comment pointed out, the fact that his case number is "2022[...]", there's a pretty good chance Google's had the entirety of Null's Google communications on a silent legal hold for the past 2 years.

Not there yet as it's still tentative, but worth mentioning as it would be quite brobdingnagian.

Biden preparing to offer legal status to undocumented immigrants who have lived in U.S. for 10 years

Biden's already used this parole power before, the main concern appears to be some subsequent president rolling it back.
