This is off-topic but can we get a couple posts between anything from Mongrel and anything from Buge that is just too much cape-flourishing for me to handle at once

On the way to school this morning, Kiddo 01 was amazed at how windy it was. And because we live in the worst timeline, my first thought was "wildfires... don't talk about wildfires."

It really gets me down, contemplating what kind of environmental hellscape I'll be leaving behind for the next generation. I mean, I have for a while, but it's no longer an abstract thanks to this whole parenthood thing. ...in the darkest moments, I wonder if I should have had children at all

It's not the outcome we deserved, but I guess at least it's something.

Former residents are still fucking homeless in Chico because of the fire. And everyone* is like "where did all these homeless people come from all the sudden" because I guess human beings lack brains capable of distinguishing cause and effect even when it's as simple as "a person's house burned down, they had no insurance because they were in poverty and fire insurance in the California hills is jacked up to beyond fuck-ass, the government gave them 10,000 dollars which is not even remotely enough to build a new life and then fucked off, and now they're homeless."

*okay, not everyone. There are good people in town who know exactly why the homeless population just surged, but there's also a sizable portion who thinks we should "just ship them away"

California is on fire (more than usual) from a thunderstorm that moved S to N through the state. I walked out and watched it when it passed over my house. The fires around my area seem to be not so bad, but I am def experiencing some PTSD which flared up when my mom showed me a fire burning next to the Oroville Dam.

(You remember that one, it's the one that broke a few years back.)

Anyway, a lot of our prison labor fire fighting force is unable to respond because they're sick with COVID, and Newsom has said "everyone in Cali should be ready to Evac."

Anyway, it seems like this time the worst of it is around the bay area and socal. Stay safe, my southern Cali people.

also can we strikethrough "a few burgers short of" from this thread title

I'm pretty sure I'm okay since my family currently lives near the ocean... but a little preparation never hurt anyone.

I have friends who live in Anaheim, though. A little farther from the hills than Romo used to live. I should check in on them.

Hmmm, won't let me edit the title?

Was going to go with:

"California Screamin: All the leaves are ash, and the skies are too."

Put into context of the greater Bay Area...

Legend: Red circles on this live-updating map are actively burning areas, as detected by satellite. Orange circles have burned in the past 12 to 24 hours, and yellow circles have burned within the past 48 hours.

So the upside for Upthorn is that the nearest fire is largely burning away from him.

What do the fire icons represent?

I'm looking at a map embedded here, not sure if I can direct link to it.

Since there are so many fires, they have been lumping the fires into "complexes". My guess is that the flame icons are the center of gravity for each complex.

EDIT: Upthorn found the link
